“Basic stopover accommodation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

We use this Travelodge as a convenient place to stop when visiting family, we usually only stay here if the Premier Inn up the road is full or too expensive. The room is OK, a little tired but serves its purpose. The rooms on the front can mean that sometimes you hear guests arriving back late from nights out. The receptionist was very helpful and provided us with extra pillows and towels when we asked. The Toby Carvery next door is really handy for breakfast which is all you can eat for £3.99!

This is what I expect from Travelodge that unfortunately I havent had recently at some of their other venues. There was some niggles - the TV remote didnt work and the paintwork was marked due the heat from the room heater.

Clean with no frills and a welcoming & simple check in process. Id happily stay there again, especially if I can get it for the £19 bargain!

This is by no means a luxury hotel but when you just need an overnight room it's perfect. The room was clean and comfortable. Reception were helpful and welcoming. There is a toby carvery next door but we gave breakfast a miss. Overall good value for money.

We found this hotel to be very clean with good access to the motorways. The staff are excellent and really helpful. There is a Toby carvery next door for dinner and breakfast. We paid £19 per night, which was a real bargain. The only small grumble is we stayed in room 104 and the floor squeaks everywhere but would stay again, it sorted our every need.

Me and my 16 year old daughter stayed at this hotel on a stopover after seeing Steps at the MEN (fab concert btw). We had checked in prior to the concert and we had no problems with the room etc - looked like we were going to have a very comfortable stay.
We arrived back at 01:15 having had a lovely meal after the concert to find the front door dead bolted. The electronic fob wouldn't open the door because of this but not overly concerned, we just rang the doorbell and waited. Well, we waited and waited, rang and rang the bell, knocked and knocked on the door all to no avail. The phone number on the outside panel had been scratched off but we managed to find the phone number via google (miracles of mobile phones these days) and rang it but no answer.
Finally after 25 minutes the night receptionist Graham came down the stairs and kept us waiting outside another 10 minutes whilst he huffed and puffed his way through the reasons for the bell and phone not working and his "nearly being attacked in a nasty incident last week" hence the door being locked. He suggested we complain in the morning to the manager.
Complain I did the following morning where an apology for "mechanical error" was made in broken English along with a repremand for shouting at Graham!!
Whilst expressing my frustration at being kept locked outside for 25 mins in the middle of the night, Graham suddenly appeared from round the corner where he had been hiding! He proceeded to shout at me and got really quite nasty to the point where the manager had to ask him to calm down.
The end result was a half hearted apology for the doorbell and phone not working. When I asked for a phone number or email address for head office I was told "no, not possible". I am left feeling my complaint has not been taken seriously, that the staff can speak to guests inappropriately without any reprisal and that there is no way to take things further. Basically, they have your money up front and can do what they like from that point on!
We will never stay at this Travelodge again but will they care? Will they heck!!

On a recent U.K holiday from Australia we booked this TL based on the good reviews on trip advisor (minus the one about smoking in the room), for the last 4 nights of our stay prior to flying back. We got the room for 19 pounds a night - Bargain. The location was great for us and we used the room as a base and its easy to drive to the airport from there. The room was really clean and the bathroom modern. As with all TL we only had one pillow each and the room was basic but perfectly adequate and quite honestly well worth what we paid for it. It is next to a main road and we could hear some traffic noise but nothing too loud and did not interupt our sleep at all. We didn't see much of the staff for the first few days, but then we spoke with Lisa and Graham who were really friendly and helpful and made us feel really welcome. They hepled us out with a discount voucher for the pub breakfast next door (well worth it - great breakfast) and assured us that our noisy 2 year old had not disturbed other guests over the last few days. Will definitley stay again - Best Travelodge we have stayed at!

We have stayed at this hotel several times and found it basic but spotless and well stocked. What comes across most is the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff. Tip: get the breakfast at the restaurant attached to the hotel. It is extra but definitely worth it. The locals use the restaurant as a Sunday breakfast treat, but it is clean quiet and a fantastic choice of food. we will always use this as our first choice of hotel when staying in the area.

Room Tip: Go for the breakfast. We've stayed three times in three different rooms, and never any complaint...
