“Great stop”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2008

This hotel is a great stop off on the way to the Lake District. We stopped here for one night. We pre booked it on travelodge web site so
got a huge discount..The hotel is well run, friendly staff. The room was as expected and when we asked for extra pillows not a problem. I would recommend this hotel.

When we arrived, there was a load of old smelly carpet left outside the reception. As we walked down the corridor to our room, the smell hit us - it was a terrible damp, stagnent water smell. The room also smelt of it but not as bad as the corridor. They had obviously had some sort of flood or damp problem, hence the old carpet dumped by reception.

Near to wear we parked the car, there was a dead rabbit, half covered up by a mat.

In the room, the shower didnt work, there was no remote for the TV and the room was flithy.

Food wise, there is only the service station facilities. The Travelodge website says there is a Harry Ramsdens restaurant, but all we could find was the Moto service station restaurant. We had a pizza and veg risotto as they cook to order but they were over priced and not nice. The hot food looked like it had sat there all day.

We only paid £15 for the night so we didnt expect much, but having a young baby too, we expected the room to be clean and the basic facilties like a shower working.

We stay at this travelodge every year because it is very convenient for The Lake District, Flookburgh Steam fair, and even Morecambe if you are so inclined.

It is a very well run travelodge, well maintained, CLEAN and with pleasant staff. It's also busy so book early!

Parking is available right in front of the building.

Adjacent to this travel lodge is a motorway service area which is pretty basic and in need of refurbishment. But it has all the essentials - albeit at "motorway" prices.

Incidentally, when you look at the map it's hard to get your head round the fact that this Travelodge is only accessible from the NORTHBOUND carriageway of the M6. In fact there is a service road connecting it to a small "B" class road going towards Burton in Kendal. You can see this road easily on most maps.

  • Liked — The location is excellent
  • Disliked — The adjacent motorway service area is grotty and needs refurbished.

My family of four stayed at this Travelodge for one night in June 2007. We were traveling from Liverpool to southwest Scotland and this motor lodge was about half way.

The motel is located on the north M5, has ample parking, gas station and food services. Our room was okay and very Travelodge-like. One queen size bed and a sofa that converts to a sleeper for two - one on the sofa and one on the floor. The bathroom was okay, a bit small, but that's a Travelodge for you.

The guy at the front desk was friendly and advised us to skip the place next door for our dinner - not that good and pricy for what you get - and to travel to Burton proper for a meal at a pub. We took his advice, did the 10 minute drive to Burton and had a great meal at the pub with all the locals. Sorry, I forgot the name of the place, but I believe "Lion" is part of the name.

Overall, this was a good place to stay for our road trip purpose and through the internet, I booked us at only 39 GBP.

Very pleased with our bargain 2 day stay at this hotel. OK, it's a Travelodge, and they're all pretty similar, but we had a nice quiet room at the rear of the hotel, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful.
