Description: Peggotty's Tea Shop has an interesting, ever changing decor inside the shop. Perhaps a little quirky? Bright paintings and hats (!) decorate the walls. There are tables in front of the shop, and also a couple of tables in the peaceful oasis of a back garden. The tea is from the local Kent Tea Company - loose leaf only. The cakes and scones are 100% homemade. Try the tangy lemon drizzle or the nutty coffee and walnut, 2 of the favourites.Or why not just go for a plain and simple old fashioned rock cake. They will not disappoint you.If you are feeling the need to be decadent, try a scrumptious afternoon tea - consisting of sandwiches of your choice, scones jam and clotted cream, and cake of your choice to finish. The cream teas are scrumptious - how can you resist?Go on - treat yourself!

“What a lovely place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2012

We had lunch at Peggottys before going to a family wedding at St Mildreds church. We all had something different off the menu and everyone said how nice it was. The selections of teas available was unbeliveable Would go there again when we next visit Tenterden

“What a brilliant place!!!!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2012

WOW - we were most impressed with this little tearoom. Loved the homemade cakes and the very special tea. So surprised to find out that they only re-opened 3 weeks ago under new Ownership. Well done for providing such a great service and gorgeous food. Good Luck for the future.

“Real English Tea room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2012

Loved the waitress in her long black dress with full white apron & white cap, the fine china with leaf tea in a teapot (no teabags here). The coffee & walnut cake was superb, as was the scone. If you want "English" this is the place for you.

“Excellent traditional afternoon tea”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2012

Just visited Peggottys and thoroughly enjoyed afternoon tea. The full works sandwiches, scones and cake, all homemade and very good, loose leaf tea and plentiful. The new owner is trying really hard to improve the reputation of the previous owners, and deserves full credit, even the waitresses were suitably dressed for traditional afternoon tea. For a Monday afternoon it was very busy, and I for one will return.

“Could be so much better”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2012 via mobile

Cakes looked ok!..I ordered a jacket potato but when it arrived it tasted vile, it tasted like it had been sat around for days and cooked in the microwave for hours!.Also I'm not sure if it was the owner or just staff but I noticed how one lady sat at the front of the tea room having a cigarette, which I thought was very off putting.

Peggottys, Owner at Peggotty's Tea Shoppe, responded to this review, June 11, 2012
The business has been closed since March 2012 while the new owners have been undertaking extensive refurbishment to make Peggotty's a favourite destination in Tenterden. We will very shortly be re-opening with an enhanced menu and lots of scrumptious cakes and hope to see you return to the new Peggotty's in the near future.
