“Top Teas”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

Absolutely lovely - delicious teas and coffees and delightful
cakes in a fabulous setting. They couldn't have been more
helpful. Definitely a fitting end to a garden visit and with a
wonderful view of house, church and the old town of Sandwich.

“We expected much much more”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2012

I took my nan for afternon tea for her 91st birthday. The Secret Gardens were a recommendation from a work colleague. I was very very disappointed. Last year we went to Eastwell Manor & the year before The Ritz so maybe we have been spoilt in the past. We ordered the salutation cream tea. You get one egg mayo, one ham & one cucumber sandwich. They were OK - nothing stand out not the best quality ingredients. Then two scones (choice of fruit or plain - we opted for one of each) which were OK. Had expected them to be warm but they were cold. Finally we had four large slices of cake - chocolate, lemon, coffee & victoria sponge. The cakes were quite stale or overbaked & the slices were so large it would be impossible to eat them all. With the afternoon tea we had English Breakfast tea which arrived about 30 minutes before any food, so had run out by the time we needed it to wash down the quantity of cake so we ordered some fresh tea & were charged extra for this?
The staff were polite, there was a trainee member of staff who was a bit dappy but polite.
I hope that reading this you find this a realistic review but it's what we thought & I think there are better places to have afternoon tea at the prices they charge.

“Salutation Cream Tea - Quality Teas but disappointing overall”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

The tea was lovely, I had Earl Grey and my husband had English Breakfast, however you are much better having tea and your cake of choice. Expensive for food you could not possibly eat all at once. My husband and I visited the gardens and tearoom based on their website. The tearoom was busy but quite cramped, a bit claustraphobic for me. We decided to treat ourselves as we were on holiday and had the Salutation Cream Tea. The service was fine and the waitress did point out the Cream Tea would be filling and they would be happy to box up anything we were unable to finish. Overall the food was fresh and tasty however it was more than disappointing as a cream tea. The only thing I suspect that resembled the Savoy was the 3 tier cake stand and the tea strainers. Not one piece of china, heavy cups, coffee style rather than tea. We did get a jug of hot water but unfortunately the tea and water arrived too far in advance of the food making it luke warm after the 1st sandwich. The sandwiches were fresh and tasty however this is where it begins to deviate from any expectation of the cream tea I had envisioned. What we got was 2 large scones each and 3 pieces of cake each, slices and slivers - not evenly sliced. All far too much to eat and off puting to see so much food. All it appears they have done is load the plates with their normal cakes and scones, basically 5 portions of cakes each. Absolutely nothing special here and far too much to eat at once. We left with 2 boxes of cakes, which appears fine but they were obviously not as fresh by the time we got back to our accommodation. So do not expect them to last. The Cream Tea was not value for money and very lack lustre in content and presentation.
