Stayed in the st Davids room, which wasn't in the main house and got the place all to ourselves. Lovely service when they showed us around the room and asked what time we wanted breakfast and if we wanted a paper. The room was lovely and clean with nice small touches such as the complimentary alcohol, ice machine, magazines everywhere and a plentiful amount of bath products. The bed was superb with great pillows and duvet, had a spectacular sleep. Delicious breakfast in the morning - recommend the sausages and the service was attentive.
Would recommend to anyone.

Room Tip: Ask if there is anyone sharing the outhouses- perfect if there is just you in them.

The mini bar in the cottages make it! No need to worry about drink that is covered!

Lovely gardens and the main house is gorgeous. The drawing room boasts a great environment to relax and read the sunday papers.

Would love to go again.

The check-in experience was a real pleasure compare to mainstream hotel, made to feel welcome from the very first minute. Stayed in The Farrer suite which comprise of a spacious lounge, separate bedroom and bathroom. If I had to make a slight complain about the lounge area, it would be the very small TV set in the room. The room was furnished in a typical old English style in keeping with the propriety. The hotel featured a spacious guest lounge on the ground floor with an ample stocked free bar, which rounded off a very pleasant day in the hotel. The reception organised a booking for the evening in a local restaurant. Breakfast was excellent with each breakfast being cooked to order. Check-out was equally efficient and left feeling a valued customer. The hotel was first class, just a shame that the British weather let us down. I would definitely return to this hotel.

We stayed here for a night in the height of summer and then again this week (late October). In July we stayed in the main house. The room then (I think it was Gertrude) was spacious and elegant with a comfy bed and a good bathroom. Lots of thought has been given to using good quality materials. "Help yourself" drinks are available in the main lounge from a dazzling array of bottles. Being able to wander around The Secret Garden when all the day visitors had gone home was an absolute treat. It was then just a two minute walk to the George and Dragon for very good pub food for supper.

This time we stayed in the Gardener's Cottage. This meant we had a small house to ourselves. Again, the bed is comfortable and the bathroom works well. Yes, the bedroom is small, but when you also have a lounge, dining area and kitchen to play with, it doesn't matter one bit.

Breakfast on both occasions was very good. I had the eggs benedict this time which came with lovely smoked salmon and a very good hollandaise sauce - not one of these disappointing, salty, suspiciously packet-y ones.

Having seen a disgruntled review, I would say that no, the reception is not staffed full time and yes, you may have to wait a few minutes before someone comes to look after you. On the other hand, Dom is friendly and helpful as front of house; the setting is superb; and I love the feeling of being treated like a grown up with the free bar and free wi-fi - this is not a place that's going to nickel and dime you over everything. We really enjoyed both our stays here.

Please don't listen to silly people who score this less than excellent. Have just come back from one night stay in the St Georges room in Knightrider house. The room was amazing and large with great view over the garden. Most comfy bed I ever slept in and with large en suite shower and bath you would think that would be all you could wish for in a Bed and Breakfast. But you have the added .extras which include full use of the lounge, dining room and kitchen which is shared by just three bedrooms. All furnished beautifully and comfortably. All the drinks are complementary which is a first for me in the UK and they are not skipped on. Breakfast was cooked to perfection and a real treat as was the whole stay. If you want a fantastic treat this is the place to go. . On top of everything else you get free use of the gardens. Just a great place to chill and relax, a great retreat and place to spoil yourselves. Not often I say worth every penny but in this case it was. Well done the Salutation.

Room Tip: Worth going for the en - suite

At around £360 for three nights b&b you would expect something exceptional and we were not disappointed. Booking was arranged over the phone to get the special three day rate. Dominic, the owner. arranged that personally and put us in the Coach House which is just across the courtyard from the main house. There is a single and a double room but we were the only occupants so had it all to ourselves. Downstairs was the modern kitchen diner with hob, oven, dishwasher and even an icemaker. Milk, lemon and limes were in the 'fridge along with ground coffee plus beers chilling. Tea and sugar and fruit teas were in caddys. Everything was provided to enable self-catering if desired and, in fact, we did cook a meal one evening. Upstairs our double room with a superking bed with superb bedding and large wardrobes provided comfortable accomodation. There is a small tv set and a wifi in the room. The attached bathroom had a large walk-in shower and a large bath. 'Smellies' were in plentful supply with boxes of spares in the wardrobes. There is also a small safe in one wardrobe. Two small but full decanters were on the dressing table with two small tumblers for that special nightcap.
The upper floor extends over the coach garage and shop below. A corridor passes an additional toilet and leads to are large lounge with an enormous fireplace. A larger tv is in this room. There is a dining table and four chairs, two large sofas and a sideboard stocked with spirts and mixers. A feature of Dominic's hospitality is that all drinks as provided are inclusive. The whole house is furnished in an elegant period style.
Breakfast is taken in the main house at a time to suit. Umbrellas are provided if you have to make a run for it. This is where you pick up the newspaper you asked for on arrival. There is an extensive choice of cereal, fruit, yogurt, juice and pastries and orders are taken for cooked food and hot drinks. Kippers are not available however.
Once breakfast is over the gardens are available to view and the town of Sandwich is just outside with its period houses and quirky streets. If you want to leave the car in the courtyard there is a good bus service between Deal - Sandwich - Canterbury running at three buses an hour.

Room Tip: make sure your room has en-suite when booking
