“a little visited gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2013

we ended up here by accident, planning to go to sandwich beach and it thundering lightening and pelting with rain as we got to sandwich. the rain eased tho thunder and lightening continued, and we rethought. thank goodness! richborough castle is fantastic, evocative and excellent hand held info devices for 10 and above. i wonde rif they would consider doing a simpler version for younger children? we all pottered about soaking up the atmosphere. there is also a v tiny museum there. the portaloo not so nice, but covered the essentials... there is a small english heritage shop with icecreams [this info is essential for those with small children...]

“Great Audio Tour and Fascinating History”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

As a local who has never been here, learning the Roman history of our little corner of England was fascinating.

“What the Romans did for us”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

Quite hard to find but worth the effort. On a sunny day it was a glorious spot but would be very exposed on a cold and windy day. An excellent audio guide is included in the cost and reveals the development of the site, which is quite complex. Easy to imagine the vast, white ceremonial arch dominating the hill and impressing the locals. Sadly only part of the footprint remains. The small museum has a fascinating exhibit on a Roman Dice Tower, developed to prevent cheating.
There is a coffee/tea machine and ice-creams are on sale.

“Wonderful site, A little hard to find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

Visited this site because we were in the area, saw the English heritage sign, and are members. So glad we stopped! Even without membership the cost is low and pet friendly. The site is exposed to the elements so avoid in the rain and dress for wind and cold. Learned a lot about the Roman conquest of Britannia that we didn't know before. Site is on the back roads but follow the signs and you'll find it.

“Wow! Spectacular, so glad we went! And I learnt lots!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2013

So, practicalities first. It's dog friendly - on lead, and there's a water bowl at the ticket office/shop/museum. It's a bit of country lanes wandering to find but definitely worth it. It's a fiver to get in, but free parking and a little audio machine is included in the price which guides you around and tells you all about the site.

It's huge, it's interesting and we loved it!!!
