“A happy friendly warm home from home place to stay.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2014

This Guest House is a very friendly warm and accommodating place to stay.If you want to feel comfortable like at home then it has it all.The Family room with sea view had everything required to make a family comfortable.Nice comfy beds and lovely bed linen a good shower along with table and chairs to eat with plates and cutlery provided.A fridge Microwave and cooker too.It was clean and comfortable and accommodated upto severn people with a double bed single bed bunk beds and a pull down sofa for two people.a very welcoming friendly atmosphere from the owner and the breakfast was a traditional English of a good standard.Anyone looking for a good happy warm comfortable place to stay I would highly recommend. This guest house is good value for money but the warmth and friendliness received far outweighs the cost.I will be going back again and again for this reason.

Room Tip: Family room for upto severn on the first floor with a sea view. Also well equipped for a Family.

It was a pleasure to have this family stay. The young boys were so polite and well behaved even other guests notice and commented. It will be a pleasure to see you all again. The cooker mentioned by Lynn is not in the room it is only a microwave.

Like I say filthy dirty cramped noisy stairs when you can get at them just never ever ever again this place should be closed down I don't know when it was clean last you so need to look at other guest accommodation in the area and take a leaf out of some of their book....

Room Tip: Don't choose a room just do not stay here

I dont understand the comment about not being able to get to the stairs, but do agree they are a bit creaky but then they are 200+ yrs old and as a grade 2 listed building they cannot be replaced or altered.
Cleaning is done daily but it only takes one person coming off the beach or a builder contractor with work boots on to make it look very dirty. Guest are requested to remove dirty footwear at the front door and leave in the boot rack provided, but few do. I have cleaned the stairs upto 5 times in one day but that is not always possible.

me and my partner stayed for four days here and it is a cheap and cheerful hotel, ideally situated so close to railway station and the town and beach, room was clean and tidy and contained all that you need. i never go away without my iron so was pleased when i got there and found iron and board, hair dryers etc, sue was pleasant and polite and we had some good chats, i can honestly say we didnt have a problem. it was nice to find a guest house that actually remembers that there is a recession and has done there best to accomadate in any way they can. some people may disagree with my review but as a traveller who has travelled a fair bit we didnt have any real concerns,

I have stayed at The Happy Dolphin Guest House for almost 2months for my clinical placement at QEQM Hospital and had the most convenient stay at this particular B&B. The best spot for public transport as buses and train is just literally 2mins walk. I would definitely recommend to anyone who is staying around Margate. The hospitality is brilliant and Sue looked after me really well. She provides good deal for long stay and for students room price, I had nice sleep every night. The room is brilliant and have all i needed for my stay. Communication is key and Sue is up to date with everything.

P.S. (already made lots of recommendation to my fellow students)

We booked the DUSTY dolphin for a romantic brake away, the landlady was rude and couldn't be bothered. The stairs are crooked it felt like I was at the crooked house at the fair, the room was dirty and dusty the beds were horrible due to the plastic Mattress protectors and pillow protectors, the shower didn't work it dribbled water. Also the toilet didn't flush properly and the tv didn't work properly. Don't stay here ever total disappointment !!!!!!!

This couple arrived at the door late afternoon time, bartered a reduced rate for 2 night stay. After signing in and then receiving their keys we spent 15 mins or more talking about the opening times of local shops and the shopping centre 2 miles away and whether there were any time restrictions about coming in at night (none as they had key) also where the nearest cash point was (that doesnt charge for withdrawals) as well as talking about the weather etc so how is that rude and not being bothered??????
During the evening they came and stated that a phone call informing them that her grandfather had been taken ill would make them leave in the morning, after just one night, and they were told that they would receive a refund when they checked out in the morning. On leaving, after they were given the part refund, they were wished a safe journey home and it was hoped the grandfather got well soon. So again how is that rude and not being bothered????
The crooked stairs are part of the character of this 200+year old house. She had asked about the shower and it was assumed that once she had been told how to turn it on there were no other problems. The toilet does work IF you flush it. If they had problems with TV it was not mentioned.
In fact as they left they thanked me for a nice stay!!!!!!

I have stayed at this B&B a couple of times and Sue is without a doubt an amazing host! The rooms are big and airy with all the things you would expect and then much more!!
There is a fridge, TV/DVD player in every room, with your own cuttley, tissues, kitchen towels, plates, glasses etc- it’s a true home from home.
The location is absolutely perfect for Margate as it is by the beach and two seconds away from the station. I would definitely stay again. Whether it is for a quick get away, a business trip or a romantic weekend- I would definitly recommend it.
