“Beautiful location and lovely staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2014

Staff were lovely and couldn't do enough for you. They got us a jug of soya milk for tea and coffee in our room and when we asked for directions to the theatre Royal, they gave us a map there from a folder of routes to different attractions.

The bed was comfy and warm and had a pile of pillows and cushions, most of which we didn't need. Nice armchair and real coffee with coffee plunger.

Breakfast was nice but not too large. I had kippers, partner had full English and all good quality stuff.

Very relaxing, big two person bath in a well designed and turned out bathroom, except for one broken spotlight. We had a town view room, which was fine except roadworks started before 10 in the morning.

We stayed for one night and visited the Turner gallery, old town, sea front, theatre and Sundown (gay bar), Tudor house and shell grotto. Margate is a fascinating town.

Room Tip: Sea view room would probably have been worth it. Also worth asking for a late checkout.

If you like piped music, leather-padded doors and a sterile atmosphere, then this is the place for you. We stayed for one night as there was nowhere else to find. It did the job but I wouldn't recommend it if you are looking for somewhere with character.

Its hard to know where to start with this review.

This hotel has the most amazingly beautiful interior I've ever seen - truly stunning and no expense spared. Everything oozes quality. It looks like something out of a design magazine. The roof terrace is like something from Miami - big sofas to lounge around on whilst you sip a G&T and take in the sunset!

The staff were quite young, but very, very friendly, helpful and efficient. Smiles all around, very personable young staff who genuinely seemed to want to help. Very refreshing.

The food in the restaurant was really excellent - first class cooking that was hard to fault. The menu choices were about right to provide sufficient variety, were very tasty and well cooked. Lamb was pink, fish flaky - as it should be. This was a restaurant I'd go to, even if I wasn't staying at the hotel. The view from the picture windows over the Margate sands is hard to fault.

The only thing to consider is the car parking. The hotel have a small number of reserved spaces in the car park opposite the hotel. You need to make sure you book a space when you book the room to ensure you get one allocated. This is a public car park, so unsecured and in the town centre. We didn't have any problems, but its something to consider.

Although the standard rates are quite pricey for Margate, there's nothing even remotely close to compare against. This is a truly unique hotel that is very special. If you want that experience, you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: It has to be a sea view room!

Stayed only one night for an event at the Turner Contemporary, but what a delightful night. The staff is wonderful, friendly and make you feel special. The room is fun and fabulous, with swarowski crystalled light switches, just whimsical. Wonderfully sized bathtub (for 2!) and lovely shower. And complimentary tea, biscuits and crisps! What more can one want? We had a great view of the bay too. Dinner and breakfast were also over expectation. I just hope that Margate overall will follow as it is still not really late-night stroll-friendly...

when you step off the pavement into the hotel you enter another world. the hotel has been completely re furbished with no expense spared, everyhing is new, saying that i may be doing it an injustice when i say its a bit soleless at the moment. that is overcome by the fact that the staff are really friendly, efficient and always on hand to help. the food choice is good, well prepared and served. the rooms are very well furnished, everything is spotless. its a bit "ocd" as everything has a place and everything is in its correct place... we loved it and would go back tomorrow

Stayed here for one night as a celebration of a birthday/anniversary. Everything you could want from fabulous rooms, through great staff, fine food and drink. Only issue is parking but the staff try to resolve this with parking permits. My advice, hurry here before the summer season fills all the rooms.

I had meant to write something just after we had stayed at the Sands Hotel but got caught up with work and forgot. We took advantage of the Turner Contemporary bed, breakfast, dinner deal with a brochure thrown in, for a winter weekend break and enjoyed a particularly beautiful sunny day spent at the gallery followed by a walk around the beach. We enjoyed a stunning sunset and delicious 3 course meal in front of the bay windows of the hotel. It has a particularly pretty dining area, and views from our room were also lovely. Breakfast was very good. The bathrooms particularly, are tastefully decorated and bedrooms are very comfortable. Staff were very helpful, posting us a forgotten item the following day.

I have been recommending our short Margate break to The Sands to all my friends since we went! It has some lovely boutique and vintage clothes shops near the hotel, but we still noticed a large number of very impoverished looking older residents, so I do hope the locals will benefit from it's planned regeneration. We will return in the summer for lunch or early dinner at The Sands as it is in a great location.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the front with lovely views. Our room would have benefited from having slightly les...
