“Brilliant find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013 via mobile

This little alehouse is tucked away in Margate Old Town, and is a gem for ale and cider lovers. There's sawdust on the floor, a wide variety of local ale and ciders, and all reasonably priced. I personally would definitely recommend the black currant cider.

They do a variety of food; proper meals, or things like pies, puddings or a selection of cheese. My husband says the cheeseboard full of local cheeses is particularly good.

This little place has a great atmosphere as well. We went in on Saturday night as a group of 4, and there wasn't any seats available. However, if you don't mind doing so, it is the sort of place where other people don't mind sharing their table with you, and everyone is very friendly and welcoming.

Definitely one to try if you want to broaden your mind in the world of ale and cider!

“Sadly, we were the only diners but don't let that put you off”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

This eatery has a simple menu of local delicacies. Some were not available on the day we visited, such as crab from Ramsgate, but the bread was from Broadstairs, the salad leaves from Margate and the smoked mackerel from... Ipswich. The food all tasted divine and was washed down by some good local ales. The prices are all reasonable, at £19 (excluding service) for enough food for two and one a half pints of beer. The host was also very knowledgeable about the area and has another branch in Broadstairs. Good luck to him!

“Cheese board and hot cider”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

Great place with atmosphere. Think of a tavern in Lord of the Rings. Hot cider, delicious Kent cheese, smoked fish. Four of us shared a platter and it was good value and very enjoyable. Friendly staff. (Bring cash, they don't take cards.)

“If you love real ale . . . . .”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

. . . .look no further. A wide choice of well kept ales and cider. For the non beer drinkers real nice English wine. Food is served but more light bites/lunch than a full blow meal, all produce is locally sourced. The decor is basic but a roaring fire in the back room was most welcome.

“Great find”

Loved the range of local beers on sale. We enjoyed some local fish, Kent cheese and pie listening to a folk group. Good evening.
