“Gone downhill rapidly”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013

We have been using TGI very regularly since the day it opened, but have now given up. The last four visits have been so disappointing. This is our local pub/restaurant so were very happy in the early days. The hand cut chips were amazing and the roasts were very good. In the last four months the chips are horrible and dry and roasts awful, the roast potatoes are obviously made from the same potatoes and are dry and under cooked. The veg with roast were so cremated as was the beef. The staff turn over is massive now and never seem to see the same people so no more familiar friendly welcome. The lunch menu is a reasonable price but the evening menu is so overpriced especially for just a gastro pub. I would be tempted to use if they started to do any kind of sandwich at lunch time and a glass of wine but thats it. Such a shame.

“Private Room at The Goudhurst Inn - 5***** Service & Great Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

I had to write this review after a fabulous meal we had on Saturday night (20th April). We booked the private lounge for 22 guests for dinner and drinks and it was oustanding. It really can only be attributed to the brilliant service we had from the manager Steph. From the moment we arrived everything went to plan. Steph had thought of everything and for such a big group it was just perfect. Steph was constantly on hand for drinks orders, had arranged for everyone to have a separate drinks tab which made everything much easier for us, had created a wonderful playlist to play throughout dinner – every person commented how fab she was. Steph always went the extra mile and nothing was too much trouble. She even managed to find us ipod speakers and made our evening simply wonderful. Paying the bill went seamlessly.

The food and service was great - added to the lovely restaurant setting - you couldnt ask for more.

Steph - thank you so much for making our weekend so special. From a very happy group of 22 - we all say thank you!

Lucy, Chiara, Nat, Louise & Friends.

“Nice food, appalling service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

The food was good. It was a shame it took so long to come. It took ages for them to take our order, then ages for our drinks to come and even longer for our food to come. After we had finished our food, it took about 20 minutes for them to clear our plates away. After waiting a further 20 minutes for dessert menus, we just thought it would be best to get the bill. The waitresses seemed more interested in relaxing behind the bar rather than actually serving or helping out.

Would prefer to go to the Globe and Rainbow in Kilndown rather than here.

“Gastro Pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

Consistent family/dog/child friendly pub. Menu is typically gastro with some of their own local twists. Good beer and wines and we would be surprised if you had a bad experience. Plenty of varied seating areas and a fantastic view from the garden.

“Nice food, shame about the service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

Went for Sunday lunch yesterday and didn't find the dining room gloomy, as others have found. We both had soup to start, which arrived promptly, and was tasty but warm rather than hot. The bread to accompany it was white and a bit stodgy, but otherwise all was satisfactory. The mains were impressive; a lobster risotto, bursting with flavour and a melt in the mouth belly of pork, served with crispy roast potatoes. We were too full for puddings, which looked impressive. Prices were perhaps a little higher than for the usual gastro-pub fare.

Now to the service. It wasn't terrible, just not very efficient. The staff were friendly and enthusiastic, but seemed to be a bit preoccupied, this despite the restaurant being nowhere near capacity. We were told there was a new system in operation, but if so we failed to find out what it was. We gave our order to one person, who was surprised that our wine hadn't turned up when she brought our soups. Sitting close to the bar, it was obvious from what followed that they didn't get the order. The wait between courses was about right, but the person who brought our mains carried on a protracted conversation with our first server about which table had ordered them, within earshot of our table. Luckily the food survived this experience. Then there was the wait for the bill, which was evidently forgotten about. This is not an unusual experience, and getting up and putting your coat on usually jogs the memory. We wouldn't normally be too bothered, but on this occasion had somewhere else we needed to be.

All in all we would give this restaurant another try. It obviously has ambitions to be a food destination and the overall concept is a good one. I would think some staff training, and a system that works would do the trick and make the front of house live up to what is coming out of the kitchen. My rating obviously reflects the food rather than the service.
