Owner description: Take a look behind the scenes at Shepherd Neame – Britain’s oldest brewer. You guide will take you through the heart of the brewery so you can see the traditional mash tuns; taste natural mineral water from the brewery’s well; try some malted barley; smell locally-grown Kentish hops; see bygone delivery vehicles and step into a recreated cooper’s workshop. Finally there’s a fascinating tutored tasting of Shepherd Neame’s Kentish ales and speciality lagers. Tours run most days - advance booking is strongly recommended and you should allow 2 hours for your visit

“Entertaining, informative and some beer included!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2014

My wife and I had a great couple of hours on the tour. The guides were knowledgeable and friendly and took us right into the heart of the brewery, offering an informative insight into the buildings, the the ingredients, the process and the history of Shepherd Neame.

You are each given a headset to wear, which means you can hear the guides even in some of the noisier parts of the brewery, or when it's difficult to easily gather a crowd in some of the rooms with brewery equipment in them.

Then after the tour, we were given 6 beers to try, as well as a short lesson in beer tasting; something that most of us probably feel we are experts in! Each beer was a half pint - so that's three pints included in the price which I thought was generous. Obviously, if you're driving, then you'll have to only have a sip from each.

“Excellent Tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2014

Enjoy this tour and the beer tasting that follows. Knowledgeable staff and interesting history of the brewery. Slightly difficult if you are not fully mobile. Impossible in wheelchair.

“Good evening out”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2014

We did the eveing tour with supper. The tour itself is interesting, with excellent tour guides who have good humour, lovely personality and certainly knew thier brewery. The meal was standard fair, toad in the hole with mustard mash, onion gravy and veg. The batter was more like bread pudding than fluffy yorkshire but it was tasty, filling and overall excellent value for money.
Now for the beer - well if you like a good ale then this is for you. A good choice of ales, obviously all brewed on site. The Neames ales are all excellent and you have a free one with dinner and some tastings and plenty of chance to buy one before the tour and another two after.
This is great VFM, only the batter let it down from having 5 rating, it really was an inch thick, mostly uncooked and very heavy. But dont let that put you off coming, it is all great other than that.

“Great Evening Out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2014

Visited the brewery recently for a tour, evening meal and accompanying beers. The staff were informal, informative and very helpful. The tour was interesting and well done. The meal was served in an exceptionally attractive dining room. The food and beers were high quality. Well worth a visit if you are in Kent. Highly recommended.

“Shepherd Neame Rediscovered”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2014

The brewery tour was exceedingly interesting and informative. As perhaps the oldest brewery in the country it is good to see that the old brewing traditions are still upheld using good British ingredients for the ales. The tasting session afterwards is a test of your beer knowledge and contains some surprises. As someone who last tasted Shepherd Neame back in the long hot summer in the seventies in a club who did not have the facilities to store the beer properly, I was put off it until now, what a waste time
