On the unexceptional road from Sandwich to Deal you will see the statue of a stooping coal miner. Don't pass it by but turn off and enter Fowlmead Country park. Once probably a huge coal slag heap and now a wonderful park for vigorous walks with wonderful surrounding views; opportunities to hire mountain bikes in common with numerous families doing the same; good for bird watching; possibilities to practise archery; and a cafe with ordinary but good value refreshments. We never expected this place to be so good and were pleasantly surprised by the sheer numbers of young and old who were already in on the secret.
