“Prices increased?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2013

We (from the Continent) visited the George hotel for the third time in 3 years, as usual we love the atmosphere, the service and the kitchen.
The new crew did not disappoint, but we got the feeling that the pieces went up considerably, to such a level that we are considering to look around for an alternative in the neighborhood.

“Very tasty”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

We stayed at The George at the time of the annual music festival. We weren't expecting the festival, we were expecting a quiet country pub where we could relax and unwind!
Quite the opposite but in fact we had a great time in the end.
Although noisy, we had a lovely meal. The food was well presented and very tasty.

“The George Hotel, Cranbrook”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2013

The rooms we used were mostly in the old part of the building so were steeped in history and intrigue, but were very comfortable nonetheless. We reserved the Cranbrook Room for our private family party and bar staff were attentive, but not intrusive. An excellent dinner was served by a delightful little waitress in a pleasantly decorated room, although note that vegetables do not come automatically with main meals and have to be ordered seperately, but nobody went hungry.
If there was a drop in standards it was at breakfast when the girls could have been a little more attentive to our needs, but overall it was a lovely weekend. Although it is not the cheapest on our experience we would certainly recommend this hotel.

“Just not good enough”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2013

Unfortunately eating at The George in Cranbrook is just not good enough. The food is decidedly average and the service is at times laughably slack. We live locally so for want of anywhere else we come here once in a while. We always hope it will have improved and justify the quite steep prices but I'd say that 2 out of 3 times it is just not acceptable. I mean, what self-respecting restaurant can't cook a steak to your requirements and why is the squid portion so mean - it's not as if squid is expensive?

Thankfully another pub/restaurant has just reopened nearby in Sissinghurst and I sincerely hope it'll be better than The George.
