“Pleasantly surprised. Excellent service.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

We arrived late as we had to drop the kids off so we could have our weekend a-deux, the staff arranged us sandwiches and a decent bottle of wine on arrival in the comfy lounge and were calm and efficient depite the late hour. Our room was clean and well arranged with a lovely view of the garden and Yarmouth pier. We ordered tea in the mornings which was on time and pleasantly served. The staff were friendly and couldnt do enough for us. The building itself is a hidden gem. As a place for a base to explore the island and west wight in particular The George is a great place to stay. We are not easily pleased but we just couldnt fault it.

“Perfect spot for a celebration”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

Visited here on Sun 16th Sep for a family celebration.
It was a busy Sunday lunch time service with a great busy atmosphere We decided to eat earlier than booked which was no problem for the restaurant. We were shown as requested when booked to a window seat and made to feel welcome by the serving staff.
On a Sunday they have a set menu which we all decided to order from. All the food served was beautifully presented and cooked. Two of our table had seabass which was cooked just right. We all felt the set menu had enough options and was good value for money. Total bill for five adults including a bottle of champagne (it was a family celebration) came to £190
The location just by the water is also lovely Although when we visited the weather was not so great I am sure on a lovely sunny day it would be lovely sat outside on the terrace.
Only negative point was that although the young waiting staff did an excellent job, like a lot of establishments they could do with a couple of extra staff. We had to ask about 3 times for our bill and waited 25mins

“Lovely garden”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012 via mobile

We celebrated a birthday here with lunch in the garden for 14. The food was good and attractively served, quite pricey, the view from the garden was wonderful as our table abutted the sea wall, plus the weather was very kind to us. The service went at our pace which was quite slow as it was an occasion so there was a lot of chatting and moving places.
The main problem was a live wiggly thing in someone's salad with the steak! Do not expect to have wildlife with ones lunch, we even had to request that that item be removed from the bill and still no one came out to apologise to the person who was served this delicacy!

“Tasty food an great location in the sun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2012 via mobile

Had enjoyable lunch here with family one sunny Saturday in September. Has table right by waters edge looking out on busy Solent. We had dishes including crab salad, warm goats cheese salad, sea bass and minute steak. Clean plates all round. About £30 a head for two courses and a couple of drinks - so not cheap but not overpriced given locatIon and quality of food. Would come again ...

“Not great”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

This is a beautiful place in a fantastic location - a garden view out over the Solent, its own little private beach - and somewhere we've enjoyed beautiful meals before. Now a shadow of its former self. Waterside furniture looking scruffy, umbrellas rusty, broken or missing altogether, waiting staff amateur (argumentative, too, in one memorable instance) and the food pricey and uninspiring. A real shame.
