“Great food and location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013 via mobile

Really delicious food - you can tell the chefs are passionate. I didn't want the last mouthful to end. Slightly more expensive than usual pub grub but you get the quality you pay for. Excellent location.

“The Boathouse, Seaview, Isle of Wight”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

The Boathouse is one of four pubs owned by the 'Inns of Distinction' group which operates across the Isle of Wight. It was our favourite of the three we visited on this trip. We were very lucky with the weather and were able to dine Al Fresco on the patio. The pub is in a beautiful location overlooking the Solent. We have in the past eaten inside which has cool areas in summer and a log burning fire for cold winter nights.

The food is not cheap, but is what you would expect for the location. We had a Salad (£9.95) and a ham baguette (£6.50). Carlsberg Lager was £4.00 per pint, a large Pino Grigio wine £5.95 and a glass of Pimms £3.90. The staff were friendly and efficient and we will certainly be visiting The Boathouse again when next on the Isle of Wight.

“"Good when we got there"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

We booked a table for 8 o'clock Monday 1st but we did not arrive until 8.25 because our Sat Nav took us to another address due to the PO from Tripadvisor but luckily we found The Boathouse ourselves. When we did arrive we found out on the web that there is two Tripadvisor reviews for the same restaurant one being THE BOATHOUSE the other THE BOAT HOUSE but different PO's.So we informed the lady with the problem and it would appear now that we are back home they have corrected but you will still see 2 reviews as people word it differently because of the way the restaurant has done the emblems on the paperwork.

As for the meal we ate the 1/2 lobster thermidor with al dente vegatables (£19.95) were very good and accompanied with large glass of Chardonnay £6.25 and a large glass of Merlot £6.25

Service was bit slow to start with as it took ten minutes before somebody took our food order but improved after that.

“Great location - staff awful”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2013

Having booked a table for four at the Boat House restaurant for an evening meal and phoning to advise our late arrival we were met with a caustic note on our table informing that the table would be required at 8.30. The restaurant was about half full however, and when eventually getting the attention of a waitress to enquire if that meant we had just over an hour to have our meal she begrudgingly agreed that we might be allowed longer (sniggers all round with nearby staff). Service was very slow and the main courses were OK at best and we had already gone past our written deadline by then. As the restaurant emptied further during the meal, the rational for leaving a caustic note re our late arrival was even less forgivable, but given our experience not surprising.
This is one of the few occasions I have not left a tip but would offer the following advice: Treat your customers with respect or don't be surprised if you are left with an empty restaurant.

“Lovely find right by the sea”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

After deciding to catch the ferry from Portsmouth for a day out me and my boyfriend were dissapointed to find a lack of nice restaurants located on the sea front at Ryde. After walking along the beach we came across The Boat House which was exatly what we were looking for. With it being a lovely sunny day we managed to get a table outside in the sun where we enjoyed a drink and then ordered food once the kitchen was open. All the specials were written on a board which shows they change dishes on a regular basis so its not the same food all the time. All the seafood was freshly sourced and nicely priced. My boyfriend have the whitbait to start and I had a bruchetta which were both served beautifully and were the right size. We both followed with a Rump steak which was cooked just how we like it. Our plates were cleared and we had no room for dessert although very tempted by the board! All staff were friendly and we picked up a leaflet for the accommodation attahced which is on our list of places to return to for a long weekend. Well certainly be back next time were over on the Ilse.
