“Pretty Ghastly”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012

This is quite a well known pub on the island but what a disappointment - rubbish food served by miserable and indifferent amateurs who clearly despise their clientale - avoid at all costs.

“Great location, decent food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

I can't imagine a much better setting for a pub than this, with the greenery of Puckpool Park just behind, and the sea just over the road at the front - on a nice day it must be great to sit outside and, even on a bleak November day, it was a pretty good place to sit inside by the fire.

The Boathouse is part of the same small, Island-based chain as the Fishbourne Inn and the New Inn at Shalfleet, and they are all similar in many ways, with local produce on the menu and a slightly over-restored gloss to the decor. The food was very good and the portions enormous - I didn't come close to finishing the mountain of mash on my plate. The only negative I could see is that the menu looks to not change that often, as the options didn't really reflect the weather or the time of year, being heavy on salads and light on the sort of warming soups and stews you want on a damp autumn day.

Children and dogs are welcome inside, and there were lots of both when we visited, so this might not be the best choice if you prefer a quieter atmosphere. I don't think this will go down as one of my favourites, but I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

“good service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

we stayed for 2 nights at the hotel on a d b and b offer
the accomodation was clean and modern and we had wonderful sea views so good value
the restuarant was variable, i found the first night that some of the food was not cooked as requested and had a monor complaint this was dealt with in the correct manner and on the 2nd evening had an enjoyable meal, the breakfasts were also very good choice and of a very good standard. i felt the service from the staff was very good and attentive
