“How hotel's used to be”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

Stayed here on a business trip recently - on a cold windy February evening. A beautiful old building and a feel of how things probably were when British hotels and resorts were at their height of popularity. Warm welcome, instant cosy feel to the reception area and quickly directed to my room.
Bathroom showed some signs of requiring a little TLC but bed was very comfortable and had a wonderful view over the water to Portsmouth.
I didn't eat in the evening however the menu looked tempting but breakfast was a very pleasant experience with good choice. Quality was very good - bacon particularly very tasty - must be those happy island piggies!
Just one word of caution, some of the rooms are in a separate building on the other side of road from the main hotel - I didn't see or experience these so cannot verify the quality or otherwise of these.
Definitely stay again on my next business trip. However, would also consider for a leisure break due to it's great central locate in Ryde and car parking also available in what is normally a difficult place to find non resident parking.

We attended a surprise birthday party on Monday 11th February and was delighted with the presentation and service we were given. The food was beautifully presented and piping hot, the staff were excellent,the room was very light and airy, would recommend Yelfs to all our friends and look forward to going there again. I have been a regular at this hotel for a number of years now and it is safe to say that the staff work very hard in trying to maintain the standards although they are massively understaffed and are slowly failing due the owners who seem unintrested in maintaining the property, fixtures and fittings although saying that the owner has been more than happy on numerous occasions to talk to me as i am enjoying my sunday dinner (Excellent by the way). Little tip- If you are as proud of the place as you make out spend some money!

Good Points.
* The staff are excellent.
* The food is Excellent.
* Prices are Reasonable.
* Location
* Own free car park

Bad Points.
*Cleanliness both indoor and outdoor.
*Nicotine stained walls and ceilings in bar area.(smokings been banned for 6 years)
*Wallpaper pealing off pretty much every wall.
*Water stains on ceilings in most of the corridors.
*Tiles need grouting in all rooms ive stayed in.
*Matresses.
*The onsite payphone has been out of order for years.( not everyone has a mobile)
*No lift although staff happy to help with bags.
*And many many more

To summarise i will not be returning to this hotel until some major work has been carried out which is a shame because i have some great memorys of the place and the staff who are allways happy to talk to you.Maybe one day that will happen and if it does i will be back.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel to stand any chance of sleeping.

Dear Traveller,

Thank you for your comments and for taking time to review your recent stay at Yelfs Hotel. We take all our reviews seriously and are very sorry to hear that you do not wish to return until some refurbishment has been carried out.

We do have ongoing redecoration at the hotel and have noted your observations and will include them in our future plans. This refurbishment is now currently unterway.

I hope that our excellent customer service and high quality of food will change your decision. We value all our guests and treasure our regular ones.

Once again thank you for your feedback.

Yours Sincerley

We visited Yelf's hotel for a lunch time meal. The staff are very helpful. The food was ok. Sadly each year we return we notice the decline of the hotel interior. Come on owners help your staff by spending some much needs funds to keep old and new customers returning.

Didn't know what to expect - pleasantly surprised. The room had all the necessities and the bed was comfortable. The staff were friendly and pleasant and the rates were reasonable. They also do a reasonable package for a couple of nights stay. The hotel was handy for town centre so able to walk-about without taking the car which makes a pleasant change for me. Definitely would stay there again.

I stayed here for four nights in January. Has a very reasonable single room, good size, ample storage space, good bathroom. Probably could do with redecorating but OK. Good breakfast, reasonable bar meals but the restaurant meals were very good and reasonably priced. There is no lift but I was offered help with my luggage. My room was on the second floor and the last flight of stairs is quite narrow.
