We had the lunch haddock and chips. The portions were perfect. The fish was succulent . We had a local beer which was delicious. Service very good. Would definitely recommend for lunch.

“A few tweaks, and this could be an epic gluten free (GF) haunt”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2014

We visited on a sunday (Tuesdays are also GF days) with extremely high hopes. Having driven from nodes point specifically for this treat, we arrived only to find that the chain ferry was shut so we could not get over to the outlet, so we headed back down to newport, and then up again to the right side of cowes to be able to get to the shop.

The menu of fish available is really impressive, so much so than the usual fish and chip place.

The quality of the fish we had (we plumped for traditional haddock and plaice options) could not be questioned - truly fantastic - and cooked to order. Nor could its cooking be faulted - cooked to perfection. BUT, both pieces of fish sadly lacked flavour - maybe not seasoned? They were strangely both quite tasteless. SO disappointing :0(
I forgot to ask for salt at the "wrapping" stage (and was not offered any to remind me) - does this affect the taste this much??

The crispness of the gluten free (GF) batter was again faultless - the colour was quite insipid though, and again completely lacked flavour. It needs seasoning pre cooking, as we both doubt that any post cooking seasoning would help that much (?). GUTTED - such a treat to have GF fish and chips. On a plus note, the only thing probably required here is seasoning in the batter mix.

We sampled the homemade tartare sauce - my partner thought this was awesome :0)

Finally, we forgot to ask for salt and vinegar on our chips at the wrapping stage (and as noted before, was not offered any to remind me). The chips were again really quite tasteless and quite floppy (maybe they had been sitting around a bit too long?), and lacked the colour and flavour of other outlets.

Would try again (and make are that seasoning requested at wrapping stage), and hope that the lack of taste was due to this. However, would think that seasoning would need to be present in the batter pre-cooking to make the taste good...

“The Best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2014

We love Corries Cabin for its exelent fish and chips always freshly cooked very hot and very tasty. served with a large helping of good humuor and a cheery smile no matter how hot and busy they are what ever the time of day.
They always have a wide selection of different things to try that are seasonal eg: deep fried brussel sprouts at Christmas time, they went down a storm. Battered Mackerel, battered Salmon, a must if you have never tried them, they have a very good childrens menu and things for them to do while waiting for their meal in the restaunt. I could go on....
Both the restrant and the takeaway are spotless at all time's and we feel that their prices are very fair and reasonable. We recommened them to all our family and friends.
They also have a costomer Loyalty Card scheme which is very usefull.
