“Disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2013

Went for an evening meal with our 2 teenage sons, firstly service at the bar to get drinks was appaulingly slow even though the place was quiet ... ordered our meal which took forever to come and was not overly impressed when it did arrive. Will not return.

Have not been here since Tony left and will not be back again.Had heard sokme bad reports but decided to have a look for myself. Has become a run of the mill tourist place lacking atmosphere and character. Food looked uninspiring and staff OK but not really bothered.Have never spent the night here so cannot comment on rooms

Stayed for 2 nights July 21st & 22nd
The badly worn stair carpet should have been a clue!
Stayed with family in two rooms, 1 & 6. Number 1 was the bigger, brighter room but we ended up being 3 adults sharing the smaller, darker room 6. Definitely felt cramped! Bathroom was very poor - mold on the ceiling, peeling paint on the walls and only screw heads where a mirror should have been! If we would have had more time we would have looked round for another hotel but, as there were 5 of us and wanted to stay together, we decided to stick it out!
The company have obviously spent a lot of money renovating and extending the bar area but have also obviously grossly neglected to do the same on the hotel side of the business!
The one evening meal we had was a disappointment - the 2 fish meals we ordered were meager portions and when we complained about the burnt potatoe wedges, we were bought a replacement of the same??
Like I said, if we'd had more time, we'd certainly have looked around for alternative accommodation.
The one saving grace was when I complained upon check-out I was given a 20% discount on 2 nights @ £110 per night!
We purposely wanted to stay on the west of the Island but would look round for better value etc. on a future visit.

Would love to keep this place to ourselves as our little secret! The Wight Mouse offers great accommodation and hospitality. Nikki and her team offer unrivalled service, even when things go wrong as they did on my son's 7th birthday celebrations, Nikki sorted out our grievance very much to our satisfaction and two years later here we are booking up our annual trip to IOW and The Wight Mouse. It is the staff who make the place, rooms looking a little tired however, always clean and comfortable. The Wight Mouse Inn will forever hold life long happy memories for our family, well done Nikki and your team!

Room Tip: Sea view offers amazing views

Great location with marvellous views. Our room was over the main door and car park so no views and a lot of noise. The room door opener scraped the bathroom door al the time so bathroom door has d to be ledft open. Loose toilet seat. Broken blind. The room is poor. We were to pay £85 but after complaining had the price reduced to £50 - the hotel advertises rooms at £50. WE could not change room as the place was full. The evening meal was average and quite expensive. We were told breakfast from 8.30 am- we were getting the 9.35 ferry and the Wight Mouse is some way acros the island from the ferry port- so we thought we'd have to skip it. However I went downstairs to walk my dog early (very dog friendly is the hotel :) and I asked someone if we could at least have the buffet breakfast. We could so we went for it - there was only fruit juice and cereal (a disappointment at firts as I cannot have milk) but then a really nice member of staff asked us if we wanted tea/coffee and toast. Yes please. Then she came back and said we could have a cooked breakfast too. We were very pleaed that I'd gone downstairs early. The breakfast was very good. Generally the staff are excellent. Careful room maintenance and more information on meal times would greatly improve this place. It is a long way away from anywhere so once there you are there.

Room Tip: Pay more for a room with a view and state which side of the hote you want.

Eight of us stopped here for lunch during a cycle trip to the Isle of Wight. The staff were helpful and courteous. The ordering of food was easy and the garden fantastic. The view was cracking.
The staff happily refilled our water bottles and gave us directions to check we went the right way.
We only had lunch so I can only comment on the bar and food.

I would recommend this to everyone. Excellent food and all round fab place.

This pub/hotel was run better when tony and shirley were managing with the lovely staff they had there. Upon a late visit Staff have become rude with poor hygiene. Food was cold and nothing was done about it. The whole place was filthy too. I will not be visiting again
