“Quirky, comfortable and welcoming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2011

We found this out of the ordinary and exquisite accommodation online whilst exploring the Sawbridgworth area and were not disappointed. We had a lovely evening meal in the bar whilst chatting to Derek the owner, who was a great host. The room was comfortable, clean and the overall stay was certainly value for money. I would definitely recommend this bed and breakfast for both business and pleasure. Thank you Derek!

Little Hallingbury Mill is so picturesque it could have come straight from the pages of 'Wind in the Willows' by Kenneth Grahame.
We stayed there for a couple of nights when visiting our daughter in Sawbridgeworth and were extemely impressed with the location. It really is a watermill and the stretch of water beside it is a haven for wildlife. I have never seen so many dragonflies in one place and the fish had to be seen to be believed. Derek told us there was also a pair of Kingfishers in residence but alas we didn't see them on our visit.
We were so impressed with the place that we booked Sunday lunch, where the children were not only well catered for, they were made to feel really welcome as well.
The only downside is that our daughter has now moved so we no longer need to travel so far south and so don't have the excuse to stay there - but certainly if we are ever in the area again, we will return for a meal and a drink if nothing else.

We had our wedding reception at Little Hallingbury Mill - it was perfect! Derek and his team catered for our 60 guests with a delicious hot and cold buffet and first class customer service. Nothing was too much trouble and every single one of our guests had nothing but praise for the location, food and fantastic customer service. A gem!

This is a lovely place to stay! My mum and I stayed here on our first night in England and loved it! We were greeted with a warm welcome and shown to the room we had requested due to the view from the window as shown on the website. What a view!!! Directly over the canal with the long boats - gorgeous. We had dinner at the hotel which was so cheap for 2 courses and was delicious! The breakfast was lovely too and all staff were super friendly and helpful. The room was cute and spotlessly clean - if you love england you will love this hotel so cute. It did have a really small ensuite you had to shut the door to be able to move around!, but it was all part of the novelty who cares so long as you have an ensuite!! And comfortable beds!! Would definitely stay here again so lovely and handy to Stansted airport for a night before our drive north! Thanks Little Hallingbury :)

Room Tip: We requested room 15 (a twin) for the gorgeous view!!

Myself and Dave had the most fantastic time at Little Hallingbury Mill for our wedding, we chose the venue because we had about 40 people attending and we wanted it to be an intimate affair, everything was catered for Derek and his staff including his mum decorated the venue with all my own things that i had bought, they made sure everything ran smoothly, the rooms were lovely the mill and surrounding countryside was very pretty, nothing was ever to much trouble and they all put themselves out for us, the food was exceptional and the whole thing was very reasonably priced, all our guests said they had a great time and we will certainly be going back there again to try some more food on the menu, once again i would like to thank derek and his staff and mum of course for an absolutly fantastic day Dave & Diane

We used the hotel prior to a flight from Stansted, about 20 minutes drive away. It's in a lovely, quiet rural area with river, fields and walks . The room was spotless and quite spacious with really comfortable beds (double and bunk). Tea and coffee facilities were available and there were soft, white towels, and toiletries in the shower room. The bar and restaurant were in an adjacent building and housed some workings of the old mill. We had dinner in the bar and breakfast which was served in the restaurant upstairs. Both meals were good. We would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Our room on the ground floor was very quiet. Extra care if children are with you due to river.

Just returned from Hallingbury Mill. We found it via the internet and were not disappointed. The setting is beautiful and the owners and staff very welcoming. The rooms are in need of a little updating but there is everything you need including lots of complimentary tea coffee and milk. You usually get only enough for just one cup each. Comfortable beds and plenty of hot water and towels. The food in the restaurant is also very good and reasonably priced.Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
