“Nice countryside resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

Great classic British style resort, was with conference and enjoyed the facilities greatly! The staff was nice and the rooms are new. Didn't love the shower in the bath tub would expect separate facilities for such a high price. Food was great and especially loved the BBQ they hosted. Loved the walled gardens and although I did not have my family with me, there were many children friendly facilities.

Dear Evee0725
Thank you for your review following your recent stay with us.
We have a range of room catagories and the bathrooms differ in each. Our Deluxe west wing rooms for example have a free standing bath and separate shower.
We hope to see you again soon, with the family perhaps, to enjoy our range of leisure facilities.

The Grove is one of my favorite places in the world! I’ve stayed a dozen times in the past five or so years and never tire of it. See below things I love about the Grove and those I like a little less.

Love:

1. Amazing grounds – you can take the most wonderful walks, including along a canal with locks and houseboats. The gardens are beautifully maintained and there are lots of secret, special corners. The buildings are intelligently renovated, but retain that special historic feeling.
2. Wonderful spa – inside and outside pool, decent gym
3. Excellent service, comfortable rooms. Good wi-fi and there is a desk where you can work if you need to.
4. Decent room service; good restaurants
5. During the week – quiet and restful place.

So-so:

I visited the Grove a fortnight ago, arriving Sunday morning. In an effort to maximize profit, the Grove allowed THREE weddings to happen in the same day. This on top of lots of families with children staying. It was bedlam. Tipsy guests tripping over each other; overpowering smells of Indian cuisine (which I love, just not for hours at a stretch); screaming kids running up and down the corridor. It was just awful. Once they all left Sunday night, the Grove returned to its restful, sedate self.

As it grows ever more famous and beloved, the Grove will need to intelligently manage the flow of guests so as not to erode the brand.

One final niggle - the indoor pool is always TOO WARM. There is no need to boil the guests.

Room Tip: Not on a summer weekend!

Dear TamarBoston_M

Firstly, thank you for your loyalty to The Grove and for talking the time to post your review. We are delighted to be one of your ‘favourite places in the world’.

Our aim is to ensure that all of our guests have a wonderful experience with us, whether they are dining, golfing, staying or celebrating a special occasion, so we are disappointed to hear your recent experience did not meet your expectations.

We are a family focused hotel and as you can imagine the weekends during the summer months are a particularly busy time for us, however we do our upmost to ensure we make the best use of our space and facilities - a dedicated kids club, games rooms and Walled Garden tend to attract the families - and our event spaces for weddings and celebrations. Naturally we try and balance our business demands in an ever changing, challenging and dynamic environment with guest’s comfort uppermost in our mind, nevertheless as a valued regular guest we were sorry to disappoint you on this occasion and thank you for bringing this to our attention.

As a “Spa” leisure pool, the temperature is set slightly warmer than average at around 30 degrees. Please be assured your comments have been passed to our Maintenance Manager to address accordingly.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to The Grove in the not too distant future.

We took my mother here for afternoon tea as a birthday treat. My girlfriend is very fond of afternoon tea, so we have been to various hotels in London for afternoon tea before.

This is the hotel that made the news due to the Bilderberg Group meeting of industrialists and politicians, so I was quite interested to see how the other half live.

We were made very welcome by the staff, and offered a menu. Upon opening the menu, it became apparent that the menu was just for teas – each page offering a full description of each connoisseur tea on offer, with detailed tasting notes! The cakes and sandwiches came without us having to make any more choices, but they were absolutely delicious, and what's more, the charming staff were happy to offer us more without us even having to ask, so we had a lovely filling teatime treat.

The hotel itself is very nicely decorated, with lots of fresh flower displays, and had obviously been properly designed by an interior designer with some flair – none of your 'vanilla' corporate neutral stuff, which made a refreshing change. Then we took the opportunity to take a leisurely stroll round the grounds, which was lovely. The grounds have also had the same 'designer' treatment, with beautiful plants and trees, and some sculptures (again, some quite 'edgy', which I like).

All in all, it was a great afternoon, and the price was very reasonable at £30 a head, as we have paid this in Central London hotels for inferior teas in more corporate surroundings. All credit to the Grove.

Dear Paul B
Thank you for your lovely review of our afternoon tea, we're delighted that you had such a great experience with us and found us to be good value for money.
Our interiors and gardens are something that we are incredibly proud of and work hard to maintain - our team of gardeners certainly do a marvellous job!
We do hope you'll be back again soon.

No doubt about it: The Grove is a 5 star luxury surrounded by impeccable beauty. The only point to raise is that it is not as children friendly as I would have hoped. Most of the facilities dedicated for children were not available due to low occupancy rates by families. It was not the easiest job to keep my 7 year old entertained, although I have to say he ended up enjoying his stay.

This was our 5th visit to The Grove. It was a friends birthday so we mentioned going to the grove for dinner in the glasshouse.
We booked a table for Four at 6.30pm we finally left around 11pm after several visits to the Buffett. It was another amazing evening enjoyed by all.
I would recommend the grove for that special occasion every time

Everything was very good but possibly a bit overpriced. A bit surprised when on the practice area the sprinklers came on and remained on for 5 minutes even though the young member of staff tried everything to stop them. The staff that we dealt with we're very professional without being stand offish. Overall enjoyed the golf and thought the staff were excellent

Dear Johnkar1,
Thank you for taking the time to post your kind review of The Grove. I am sorry to hear of the sprinklers, clearly not intentional, and hope this didn't impact too greatly on your visit. I look forward to welcoming you again to The Grove.

Overall
A great experience again . Only criticism would be restaurant choice . Glasshouse can be a bit of a hassle & for the price dinner buffet choice is limited . Colettes too austere & staff need to be more polished .
