“The grove”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2013

We had a very relaxed stay at the grove. The service was very good in all respects from the reservations team to the front of house, concierge etc.. our only comment is that the hotel really needs a bit of investment now it is ten years old. The room we stayed in had a cracked sink and chips to the doors. Along the corridors the walls were marked and the lift to the spa was scuffed. The overall upkeep of the hotel needs improving as a five start luxury product.
The spa treatments were great but spa area now needs a refurbishment to bring it up to luxury standard. Separate rest areas means couples cannot spend time together chilling in a relaxation area whoch is strange. The gym by contrast was excellent with technogym equipment. The food was very good and we enjoyed our stay but for a luxury product with a price to match the hotel should have had more investment over the last five years which it has not.

Dear nick n,
Thank you for taking the time to review The Grove. We are continuing to invest in the property and will have the comments you have raised looked into further. I am pleased you were able to take full advantage of the newly installed Technogym equipment in Sequoia, our spa. I hope we'll see you again soon.

You start to relax the moment you turn off the main road and drive towards the Grove. I always look at the Green's and the fairways. They are emmaculate and that reminds me why I play here when I get the chance. The staff unload and park the car. The guys are attentive and welcome me by name. The falicities are just lovely and a meal or drink after a round of golf makes the day special.

Our planned trip to The Grove was part of many celebrations to celebrate three special birthdays within the family. The day was superb. We were greeted warmly and shown to our own area of the restaurant, where we would spend the next few hours. It was light and spacious and we soon relaxed as we selected our drinks from the tea menu!

Afternoon tea was selected and freshly baked scones were prepared, as we started on the sandwiches. The selection was brilliant and the flavours beautiful. But the best thing was the light, mouth-watering scones served with homemade lemon curd or raspberry jam and cream ~ simply divine.

Of course, a wide selection of cakes was also available, but the birthday trio were each presented with a delicious cake, made specifically to celebrate the day. Oodles of tea were also on offer to refresh the palate. Following the tea, we enjoyed the delights of the garden and thrilled at the magnificent works of art in the garden~ totally amazing day out.

Room Tip: We did not stay overnight.

We have been regular visitors to the Grove since it opened, and have booked numerous family dinners and social events here, our last previous visit was in February 2013.

I booked a table for breakfast in the Glasshouse Restaurant for my sons 21st birthday. A nice way to start the day - the hotel is only 10 minutes drive from our house.

The restaurant is now looking pretty tiered - the chair arms were worn through, not a good look in a 5* hotel.

Always a good selection of food, but the quality has slipped. Historically you could have some dialogue with the chefs/servers, that's a thing of the past - it's now more like your here just get on with it.

If your staying at the hotel I'd suggest using the Stables, a much better vibe, quality and service. So, come on guys sharpen up - get those chairs sorted out and a better interaction in the restaurant, the crowns slipping and this is from a regular (constructive criticism).

Stayed here for a conference recently and was put a room on the second floor that took nearly ten minutes to walk to through what felt like miles of corridors. Clean enough, relatively spacious and perfectly acceptable as a conference hotel. Doubt we'd stay as a couple though - although it is set in lovely grounds, it must have hundreds of rooms and I can imagine that the first floor rooms in the conference part of the hotel must hear any events going on.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the nicer rooms in the old part of the hotel. In previous years I've been given a...

Dear LondonLisbonite,
Thank you for taking the time to review The Grove. We do have 217 bedrooms and suites at The Grove and should you be located at the far end of the West Wing it can feel a distance from the main reception. However, the good news is that you are the closest to Sequoia, our spa, and The Stables for golf and dining. I do hope you are able to return and discover all the facilities we have to offer for both business and leisure visitor.

A most pleasant hotel full of charm & character, set within idyllic grounds and yet so close to London. All the staff that I came across were warm and helpful. I would certainly return to the Grove with the family, if visiting the area again.

This is the first time I have posted a review and its contents are meant to be constructive.
My wife and I were treated to an Afternoon Tea at the Grove which generally we enjoyed very much. However for a prestige venue it did not bode well when the three tier cake stand arrived with a few cakes and just 5 fingers of sandwich between the 2 of us. We were told just to ask if we wanted any more. When eaten we asked for a further two rounds which duly arrived. We had asked for their strongest tea and were recommended the afternoon variety which was not strong at all, more like " Water bewitched and tea begrudged" . This was replaced with English tea with an extra Tea Bag (home made). This was very nice.

The Scones then came up nice and fresh and were delicious as were the cakes and sandwiches.

The food was of a very high standard and enjoyable but please it is important to create the very best first impression.

We have also been to the Glasshouse in the evening which is excellent
