“Amaaazing!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013

I stayed here for just 1 night with my boyfriend for a relaxing spa break for our 1 yr anniversary.
It was perfect. Spacious and very luxurious room - we just had the standard in the west wing but was alot more than what we expected - the bathroom in particular- gorgeous! The spa is detached from the hotel although they have made access available without leaving the hotel which is great for strolling back to your room in your robe after a treatment
All of the amentities are excellent and the spa/pool/jacuzzi/dressing rooms area is really well set out and makes you feel very relaxed to walk around in your robe the whole time. We had massages, the treatment rooms are very dark with 'mood' lighting and candles and smell incredible, again - perfect. The beautician was very comforting and friendly and worked wonders on my back, her name was Tracey I would ask for her again. The bar and buffet restaurant is great, massive variety of good quality food and endless amounts of it! The grounds of the hotel are breathtaking, beautiful surroundings. The TOWIE croud were sipping champas in the bar when we arrived to check in and ashton kutcher had stayed there the night before - good indication that we were in for a luxurious stay. The staff cant do enough for you, everyone was really friendly. I would 100% go again and may even consider this as my wedding venue...loved it.

Room Tip: request a room with a garden view and if its a special occasion tell them - they throw in a piece of...

I stayed here on the 31st march with my husband and 2 kids (5 & 2 year olds) The hotel is beautiful so are the grounds.. The food is amazing the staff can't do enough for you they are so friendly apart from the reception staff - not very helpful at all check in was at 2 but was told on the phone that kids club start at 10 so come along and should be able to check in by 12!!!! We were told at 2 quote " bad news your room is still not ready " eventually we got in at 3.30! We were not told where anything is whether we should book for treatments or even lunch and dinner ( which lunch was fully booked so we had to eat at the bar) . Our stay was made better by the amazing staff in the kids club and restaurants.
Kids pool is ok not great and kids under 12 can't use the pool in the spa (again we were not told this ) nor were we told to book treatments in the spa before we arrived so they were all fully booked!
Our cards for the door never worked either -
But now I know all these things I would go back and pre book my whole stay its just a Shame we never new this before

Dear Christinemm2
Thank you for your recent review. I am pleased to hear that overall you had a good stay with us, although disappointed to hear that you found the service from our reception staff to be unhelpful. With regards to dining and spa reservations, guests are advised on their hotel confirmation to book both in advance to ensure a reservation. And access to our spa swimming pool is limited to children aged 12 years and older to ensure our guests get to experience the peace and tranquillity of Sequoia. We hope you get to use the outdoor pool in our Walled Garden when you next visit (and the sun shines)! We hope we'll see you all again soon.

We've been coming to this hotel since its opening; always a pleasure, our absolute favourite place to eat in Hertfordshire, an experience not to be beaten. Wonderful staff, wonderful location, a wonderful experience every time we visit! Collette's on Mothering Sunday surpassed itself, many thanks to all the staff.

Room Tip: Rooms in the mansion are exceptional; alternatively, a room overlooking the garden.

My mother and I decided to treat ourselves to an afternoon spa and had a wonderful day. We were greeted by name on arrival and had a very informative tour of the spa. We were thrilled with the facilities at the spa - the vitality pool was a real highlight - and our treatments were fantastic. We would definitely return again!

The Grove is exactly what it claims to be - a country estate just a few miles from Central London. It is set in a large estate, with a great golf course and very well manicured gardens around the hotel.

The interior decor, however, isn't typical of a country estate and nor is it similar to places like Babington House (I'm only mentioning this because of some previous reviews which expressed disappointment at the interior design). It has quite a modern and sometimes quirky feel (e.g. large pictures of donkeys on the walls of the corridors and plastic toy cows inside glass cases!). I personally think you need to bear in mind that the Grove is a HUGE hotel, not a boutique hotel, and so it can be forgiven for not managing to make every corridor feel chic! Having said that, there are plenty of common areas (e.g. the lounges) which are very tasteful. The outdoor spaces are also immaculate.

The best thing about this hotel is the service, which is easily as good as any smaller hotel. We've experienced exceptional service every time we have been, from reception to the restaurants and the spa. The restaurants are very good (particularly Collette's and the Stables) and the spa is what you would expect from a 5 star hotel. They also have great facilities for kids - the kids pool, in a completely separate area to the spa, is warm and shallow.

One area for improvement would be the buffet breakfast. The selection is fantastic, but the quality of the cooked items leaves something to be desired. The eggs were a bit rubbery and the baked beans looked like a pot of sauce with only a few beans swimming in there! I think the eggs should be cooked on demand to make this a better experience.

Overall a great place to go if you want relaxation away from London without having to travel far.

We had wanted to stay at The Grove for a long time and booked a night late Feb with spa treatments. We expected a cool hotel with interiors like Babington House/ Limewood/ Coworth so were extremely disappointed to find business like decor in the corridors and bedroom. Terrible cheap looking art canvases and odd plastic tables everywhere too, really tasteless. Plus its all looking a bit scruffy....

The spa was amazing, as was dinner in Collettes. We soon realised the old part of the hotel is the nice bit - the lounges are beautiful with quirky furniture and books.

Breakfast was not great - we felt we were in a business hotel again with a huge impersonal dining space.

I would like to return for the spa and restaurant but I don't feel the prices of the rooms are justified and we didn't enjoy the decor at all!

Dear KateJones,
Thank you for your review and honest feedback. We have a variety of room types to choose from and it would sound like one of our Mansion rooms would be more to your liking than our contemporary West Wing rooms. I do hope you are able to return and experience this different side to a stay at The Grove.

This is my third or fourth stay ... I am always there on business in the winter so can only speak to it from that perspective. The rooms I have stayed in are large and clean. All seem to be a long walk from lobby. Art is very funky. Rooms tastefully modern. Good wireless. Quiet. Buffet very good but pretty expensive and congested at times if you are in a hurry. Early morning for business folk is not busy. It is not close to anything for business but would be the right amount of "getting away" for a vacation.

Dear Spartanmom2012,
Thank you for your review and thank you your loyalty to The Grove. I do hope we will continue to welcome you and if you can, perhaps a trip to The Grove in the summer. The gardens and grounds come to life and the lovingly restored 4-acre Walled Garden is something very special for you to discover (complete with The Grove beach!).
