“Fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

Lots of charm. Amazing English cottage gardens. The staff is outstanding. We were there for 5 nights and were well taken care of. There is a Michelin rated restaurant in the dining room, as well as a brasserie on the property. This hotel has a very traditional English country house decor and feel. The village of Beaulieu is very cute too. Since this is in the country, you will need a car if you plan to stay here.

We've stayed at the Montagu Arms before and as we liked it so much decided it would be the perfect place for our 5th wedding anniversary, somewhere to relax and enjoy ourselves. We booked on one of the special offers available at the time, including overnight stay, cream team, drink before dinner plus a 3 course meal in the michelin star restaurant. Friends who live close by joined us for the cream tea, can thoroughly recommend the freshly made scones and home made jam, yummy. As the weather was so lovely we got to enjoy the beautiful garden at the back of the hotel, full of lovely flowers, not to mention all the local birds vying for food from the feeders provided by the hotel, lovely to watch while sipping a cool drink. We did have a minor issue on this visit to the hotel, our cream tea was a wee bit delayed as the staff got confused, however this did not spoil our time in any way, Pierre the restaurant manager handled everything exceptionally well and made sure that we were made very welcome and offered drinks during our meal to compensate. The Terrace Restaurant was superb, the food devine, we always get to try something new and thoroughly recommend to anyone, please don't be afraid of the michelin star, what this does mean is the staff are attentive, knowledgeable, everything is well presented yet still relaxed and inviting and very friendly too. So far we have stayed 4 times, each time in a different room and all have been lovely. The next visit is already planned late summer for a birthday treat so if you are looking for somewhere in a beautiful location to treat yourself, look no further.

We stayed here for two days. When we arrived we got upgraded to a suit. The room and hotel is very nice. They have a lovely backyard where you can take a glass of wine. Just outside the hotel horses and donkeys are wandering around.

I needed to plan a surprise birthday bash for my wife. The manager at The Montagu Arms was very helpful and helped me get everything sorted out in secret, and in advance. I booked a number of rooms, and a surprise dinner for twelve, and everything went off really well. The whole party had a great time, eating excellent food (tasting menu), in great surroundings, and then retiring to luxurious bedrooms, before leaving the next day after a lovely cooked breakfast.
It wasn't cheap, but the feeling of being spoilt for a time by the friendly and attentive staff made it all very worthwhile. We will return without a doubt.

Room Tip: AppleAsh (Room 4) is lovely.

We were anxious to get away from too much hard work and treat ourselves to a relaxing weekend.

The Montagu Arms was perfect. You get a feeling about somewhere when you first walk in. I was concerned that it might be a bit 'golf club' but the staff were delightful and genuine. We were lucky to be upgraded to a junior suite and then joined an unexpected but fascinating ad hoc wine tasting with the sommelier. We liked the feel of the hotel so much that we changed plans to go to the sauna and pool and stayed put. The pub next door is a treat if you like a good ale before dinner. The dinner did not disappoint. Rabbit is a big favourite and cooked 'three ways' as a starter was memorable.

All in all a wonderful day and evening - so much so that Englands defeat to New Zealand next day at the Rose Bowl did not even dent the mood.

I stayed here 21st June 2013 after getting married near by. Myself and my partner stayed in one of the junior suites. Which did what we needed it too but we expected something a bit more glamorous as some of the suites we saw saw on the website. Our families stayed there too and there rooms where absolutely stunning. The staff here are fantastic, the food and service in the bar was second to non. We had a guy called Paul looking after us, he was fantastic. If you have never been to Beaulieu then this is a great plce to stay.

On a boating trip to the area we walked from Bucklers Hard to the village and had lunch. We have a dog and were delighted that the bar allowed dogs. The food and service were excellent and they even found a bowl of water for the dog. As we were a little unsure about the dog issue we were particularly pleased with the result. Our food was fine, all four meals served at the same time. No complaints.
