“Lovely, relaxing 3 night break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

This was my Wife's thrid visit to the Monatgu Arms Hotel and was certainly the best to date. The last time we stayed on a gourment break and the only way we could have 3 courses for dinner was to pay a supplement - this was refunded after I complained but I am very glad to see this practice has ceased.
The room was facing the inner courtyard so was nice and quiet and was very well furnished and serviced daily to an excellent standard. The daily weather report cards were a nice touch as was the bottle of champagne on arrival.
The food in both the restaurant and Monty's Brasserie was of a very high standard and the service was attentive yet friendly.
All in all it is a lovely hotel in a wonderful setting with lots to see and do locally. We will certainly visit again. Highly recommended

Room Tip: Ask for a room that faces the courtyard as the ones facing the road can be a little noisy.

We stopped off for a late light lunch having visited Beaulieu Museum nearby. Staff were very welcoming and invited us in to the cosy lounge. We had tea, accompanied by homemade biscuits, sandwiches and a portion of hand-made chips - all were delicious! Service was warm and professional and we would like to return to stay and dine in the Michelin starred restaurant soon.

My family and I have been to The Montagu Arms Hotel for the Boxing Day lunch for the last two years. My sister initially recommended it and we were not disappointed. The food was absolutely delicious. The staff were excellent and not overbearing and we really liked the space between the tables. All the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful with a genuine smile. We will definitely be going again this year and possibly booking the Christmas Day lunch too. We have also been for the 3 course Sunday lunch which was also excellent. We highly recommend eating there if you live (as we do) or are visiting the area. Karen and Malc Quinn

We stayed for 2 nights between Christmas & New Year. As we had a family gathering in Portsmouth one evening, we only had dinner in the restaurant on the second. The food was very good and close to excellent, particularly the venison, whilst breakfast was good although we were unable to have the full English for dietary reasons.

We had a four poster suite, the lounge element appearing to be used as a bedroom when housing families. It was all perfectly OK as far as cleanliness is concerned but, as others have pointed out, a bit dated in its décor and bathroom fittings.

However, I may be detecting a pattern in that I wonder whether the top of the range rooms in what are generally very good hotels that we stay in do not provide quite the value for money as the slightly lower level ones. I am now questioning whether I should pay the premium for these rooms unless we are satisfied the additional comfort is actually there.

My husband arranged for us to celebrate my birthday at the Montague Arms. It was a complete surprise for me. We have often driven passed and I had always wanted to visit. Our weekend was perfect.
The service was first class all the staff were friendly and helpful, our room was amazing, with everything you could need to make your stay comfortable. Both evenings we enjoyed the most fantastic food, which we have been talking about all week, it really was out of this world.
We would both recommend The Montagu Arms it met all our expectations and more.

The hotel is delightfully quaint but with some nice contemporary features. It is set in the village on the main road but this does not detract from its charm in any way. We had a junior suite which was very spacious and the 4 poster bed was very comfortable. The food was fabulous. We have not had such succulent meats ever. The produce is predominantly local and you can taste the difference.
The thing that made every thing extra special were the staff. They were, without exception, polite, friendly and attentive, ensuring that everything was tailored to individual requirements. They were all knowledgeable about the menu, wines, the hotel and its history the grounds and the surrounding area.
The grounds are lovely even on a cold January day, and as we were leaving 2new forest donkeys wandered into the car park to say farewell.
Thanks to everyone

The Montagu Arms offered a very cosy welcome on a winter's day. The staff were extremely helpful. We had a cream tea served in the conservatory area looking out onto the delightful garden. The scones were delicious! In the evening we dined in the restaurant which was first class. We ate from the tasting menu which I would recommend highly. We had a hearty breakfast before leaving, with a complimentary packed snack to set us off on our journey. They really had thought of everything!
