“Double Bonus”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

We only stayed for 1 nights B & B, but would definatley go back again, loveley hotel in a fantastic location. My partner had purchased a voucher for my birthday for a standard room, which i believe was in the annex just off the main house and after reading some of the reviews was a little concerned. The annex itself looked fine so maybe it had been upgraded but couldnt say for sure as we never stayed in it.
Part of the voucher stated that if a luxury room was available we could get a free upgrade and were pleased to find out that there was. The staff on reception were very helpful and even offered to help with our bags. We were also taken from the reception area and shown the bar and restuarant along with the guests lounge with a large open fire place,( there was a loveley smell around the hotel of open fires that was not too overpowering) where you can sit and read or play board games. We were then shown our room which was fantastic, a good sized room which was nicley decorated, a very large bed and very big bathroom, also the view of the Beaulieu river was amazing. There was plenty of very nice Tea and Coffee available along with a complimentary elderflower spirit which was a nice touch.
We had our 3yr old with us and the member of staff said they would move the temporary bed from the room we were going to have to our new room and it will be with us shortly, however shortly afterwards another member of staff arrived and showed us to another room, this one was equally as nice but with the added bonus of a 2nd bedroom for our 3yr old which she loved.

In the evening we opted for a meal in the bar area, rather than the restuarant, again this had a large open fire place and was very cosey, gain the staff were very friendly and the service was good.
The only down side was that my meal ( the homemade pie) was very small, in fact my 3yr olds child meal seemed bigger.
Breakfast was in the Restuarant area with a nice selection of Juices, cereals and Pastries, along with this we had the full english, the ingredients were all top notch, but again was fairly small ( 1 bacon, 1 suasage, 1 egg etc), but again the staff were on hand for extra toast if so required.
All in all we had a very good time and would highly recommend, the rooms, the views, the location were all fantastic, the staff were proffesional, polite and very helpful.

A delightful, quirky hotel; lovely old building in a wonderful setting on the Beaulieu river. Felt staff let it down a little, very pleasant but not overwelcoming but had a lovely stay. Delightful 1 hour riverside walk into ~Beaulieu which is a lovely little town to wander round, and also very much enjoyed the national Motor Museum at Beaulieu. Our third visit to this hotel and will definitely return.

Room Tip: A river view in the old building is wonderful

We stayed one night (fri) on a dinner bed and breakfast package and can't fault this hotel. The room was well furnished and decorated to a high standard with nice touches such as antique towel rail etc. The bed lovely and comfortable with super Egyptian cotton bedding. All the staff were friendly and helpful, and we had an enjoyable meal in the restaurant. We had a 3 course set menu with plenty of choice that didn't disappoint . This hotel is great for a romantic winter break as it is extremely comfortable and quite remote which adds to its character. Will definitely come back.

We have stayed in a few Hillbrooke hotels and Quirky Luxury is just right.
The Master Builders is welcoming but the staff weren’t as organised as in the other hotels in the group
The bar is a traditional bar , what in the old days would have been a Tap room, it was OK but not a bar to spend an evening in. In contrast the dining room was super ,l it can get pricey but we were on the grand tour 3 hillbrooke hotels in 3 nights, this one also threw in Beaulieu tickets pretty good value. We had a room in the main hotel which was quirky , on split levels and low ceilings but thatw as part of the attraction for us.The rooms are excellent and really comfortable overall

Lovely location, plenty of character, helpful and friendly staff, very good food, loved the lounge with the inglenook fireplace a real winter warmer. Stayed in the house so can't comment on any other type of room but ours was spacious lots of charm and not bad value. A very pleasant stay would definitely return.

We stayed here for a weekend for a family Diamond Wedding celebration. The staff were extremely helpful with planning both the accommodation and the celebration dinner. Everything went extremely well - the service and attention to detail were spot on, the food excellent, the wines and port just right and the unobtrusive, but very efficient, staff most friendly. The prior planning was certainly key to getting the event we wanted and paid off handsomely, but the staff made it all happen. Much appreciated.

This place could be fantastic but it is so disappointing. First the good news: Picturesque location on the Beaulieu River, friendly staff, some rooms ( referred to as "chic rooms") in the old house are nice. Good showers and beds. Now the bad: Standard (Classic) rooms are poor standard in a gloomy 1970's extension, though showers and beds are still good. Three real ales offered in the bar, all too warm and in poor condition. English breakfast was very poor - unforgivable in a British hotel. Seriously over-cooked poached eggs, virtually raw bacon and sausage and the worst quality black pudding I have ever tasted. Ridiculously over-sweetened porridge. It is difficult to believe that the chef (or anybody else) would be willing to eat this stuff. Although the staff are friendly they are disorganised and poorly trained.
