This was a great choice of place to stay. Ok the furniture and decore is antique and it's a historic building in need of the odd repair, but the place is very clean and comfy and Donna was a fabulous hostess. We stayed on the top floor, views were fantastic. We were made to feel genuinely welcome, and Donna pointed us in the right direction for everything we needed. If you're looking for ultra modern decor I suggest you look elsewhere, but if you do you'll be missing out on a proper old fashioned B&B experience. Loved it.

Room Tip: Top floor all to yourself.

Harriet and John made us most welcome on their lovely home. The cup of tea on arrival was most welcome and our rooms were immaculate and beautifully appointed. We had a lovely meal at Monty's and Harriet made us a yummy English breakfast in the morning.

We spent one night here at Bank holiday. John and Harriet and very welcoming and accommodating, even popping out to buy some dairy free spread for me at breakfast. The room we had was comfortable and we were not unduly bothered by road noise despite being at the front. This is a lovely old house with beams and uneven floors, if you want pristine decoration and neatness and special toiletries - go elsewhere! The downside for us was the shared bathroom between two bedrooms meaning you had to pop in quick and lock the other people's door before using the bathroom and then remember to unlock again before going back to bed! But we booked very last minute so knew we would be sharing. Breakfast was delicious. We ate inside but you can eat out on the terrace with a wonderful view if you wish.

Beaulieu is a picturesque village. We took our bikes, there are plenty of places to cycle to, near and far. The pub down the road serves good food, i advise you book as they get very busy.

Room Tip: Suggest you get a room with its own bathroom if possible.

The Mill has a lovely setting in the centre of Beaulieu, and we thoroughly enjoyed eating breakfast on the terrace overlooking the lake. John and Harriet were welcoming hosts, and were also happy for us to bring our dog. Unfortunately it is also on the main road through the town, and because we had the two rooms right by the road we were frequently woken up by lorries passing through. The building is very old and quite chilly and needs a LOT of TLC - most rooms had cracks in the walls and odd patches of carpet. We felt it was overpried vs. the quality being offered. It wasn't to our taste but does have a certain charm - just be sure to take ear plus and lots of warm clothing!

I spent one night on a ladies weekend away at the Millhouse and it was lovely, we had a lovely twin rm with an ensuite just across the small landing so had the whole top floor to ourselves. The Millhouse is a very old building so dont expect clean cut edges and stylish decor, the bedding was clean as was the bathroom, there are no swanky toiletries but that is not what we went for. Harriet welcomed us warmly into her home and in the morning Donna was there to cook a plentiful breakfast, The Millhouse is definately quirky and you are truly a guest in someones home rather than a number on a door, breakfast is eaten all together round one table and as our fellow guests were lovely we ended up with a lovely leisurely breakfast chatting for over an hour rather than feeling rushed out. Im sure The Millhouse is not for everyone but if you want the personal touch in a truly beautiful setting then its a delight. We spent the evening having a meal at Montys next door and although slightly dear it was lovely as was the service, we felt like we had been away longer than one night and the whole experience was just what the doctor ordered.x

After reading some of the other reviews, I would strongly suggest these individuals re-evaluate why they travel. The Mill is a wonderful spot. No fancy soaps, perhaps. but if you just want to collect toiletries please refer back to my opening sentence. That this place could be called expensive or overpriced is absolutely absurd. John and Harriet are just the kind of people you travel to meet. Funny, interesting and full of local knowledge. They also have a gift for bringing the guests together. Yes, there is construction but did not one bit affect the quality of the stay. Besides, you could look a long time to see the restoration of a 15th ( I think ) century miil in progress. Fascinating. If you are traveling and miss family, john and Harriet are the next best thing. I regret NOT taking their picture before left. Now that I'm home, the stay at The Mill is one of my fondest memories.
