“tired hotel but ok for an overnight stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

The hotel is on a dual carriageway and is easily accessible.
The check in was painless but the rooms were actually quite tired and in need of a facelift! Everything was clean enough but the room I was in was rather old fashioned. The only issue I had was that the tv had no remote control so awkward to change channels.
Dinner was fine, I had a starter and a main course and it was perfectly adequate but nothing to rave about. Breakfast too was perfectly adequate with good choices on the cold buffet as well as the cooked breakfast.
The staff were friendly and polite, very attentive and made you feel welcome.
Ok if on your own and only staying for one night

This relaxing weekend came as a result of an Old English Inns promotion, for two nights. The receptionist was friendly and welcoming, as were all the staff we met during the two days. The room was clean and well appointed though we found the bed a bit too soft for our liking. The food in the restaurant was very reasonable, especially the 'more mature' menu, three courses for £7.75. Plates were hot. The breakfasts were excellent and we were impressed with range and quality of food available.

Room Tip: Upstairs away from restaurant area was good. We were worried about traffic noise as the room faced t...

Arrived from Bournemouth airport at 10.55 p.m. for one night's B & B. Wonderfully cheerful and helpful greeting from staff. Booked into Room 101 - large, spotless, all extras provided.
Breakfast the following morning was probably one of the best we have ever had in the UK -
good choices from continental, full English, scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, eggs Benedict,
piping hot with good tea or coffee. Checkout handled efficiently.
Could not fault our stay and will certainly stay again. However, one the downside, the hotel does not look very inviting from the outside and the exterior could certainly do with upgrading.

Room Tip: Only experience of one room.

On arrival we were greeted by a smiling receptionist, always a good start. Our room was at the rear on the ground floor, with French doors with direct access to a rage lawned area, very handy for our dog. The room was surprisingly spacious, beautifully clean with everything working. Egyptian cotton bedding and a 6' bed added to its charm. The restaurant served very good food, plentiful and well priced. Breakfast was included in our stay. The cold buffet was well stocked and our hot breakfast was cooked to order. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel. Be warned though if you are looking for a chrome and glass boutique hotel look elsewhere. A truly "Old English Hotel" and it should be proud of that. Thank you.

Room Tip: Try to book a room at the back of the hotel.

I stayed here as my work were holding a function at the hotel and thought it would be a treat for my husband and I. We arrived just before the event, and the plan was to put our things in the room and immediately enjoy the party. It was so upsetting to see the room! Bathroom sink and tiles cracked, limescale, and the worst.....pubic hairs in the bath....yuk! The room needed a good paint but even a wipe down of the stains on the walls would've probably removed some stains. There were stains on the seat, burn marks on the furniture. This place seriously needs a revamp as is very run down. The one good things was that the towels and bedding were clean. The hotel did offer to move us, but we were already enjoying the party and that would've meant leaving our friends to do this in the middle of a meal! I woke up in the morning, went to make a cup of tea and there was a dead bug in the bottom of the mug! So we put up with the room for the night and rushed home in the morning to have a shower and feel clean!

As a family we've used the Restaurant at the St. Leonards Hotel often because it's within walking distance of our home. However our visit on Christmas Eve will be our last. I accept that it was an exceptionally busy night but we had to wait an hour and a half for our meal and no mention of a wait like this was made when we ordered and no apology offered when the meals finally arrived. One meal, the rump steak was virtually inedible - cold and as tough as old boots. Now when the staff come and ask if the food is ok and they are told well actually it isn't, a shrug of the shoulders isn't the response you expect. If you are not going to do anything about any food issues why ask? When we mentioned the uneaten, poor quality steak when paying the bill we were told 'what do you expect with rump steak, it's the cut of the meat'. Can't say we've experienced that in other restaurants.

The whole place was grubby, our table was sticky and a drink was served in a glass with someone else's lipstick on it and the staff (on that night anyway) couldn't seem to care less. The men's loos need some serious attention.

We were so disappointed - in the past we have always found the restaurant to be value for money, with good quality food and excellent staff. We appreciate it was a very busy night being Christmas Eve but we have been to the Restaurant on Christmas Eve for the last three years and did not experience anything like this. Shame but the place has gone downhill and needs a spruce up - we will have to walk further a field from now on!

I was poorly delt with when I lost a personal piece of jewellery within our room in December 2012, we left the hotel having a good satisfaction about our stay. The stay was above average but the service was terrible. We are addiment that our jewellery was left within the room and I would only write my review after checking all our luggage to ensure I'm not making a bad review for no reason however I believe the jewellery was taken by a member of staff however I have no evidence to prove this so it's your decision to decide.

Room Tip: Our room was very close to main reception however no noise heard throughout stay so very good!

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding your recent visit to St. Leonards Hotel, we are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay.
We are sorry you lost your bracelet during your stay. Both myself and our Head housekeeper did thoroughly search your room and found nothing. Nobody else had been in the room from when you left , so we can only assume that it may have been lost elsewhere ? However, we will of course all keep looking and should we find it contact you straight away.
Thank you once again for your kind remarks .
