“Delightful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2011

My husband booked a night at Moortown Lodge as a surprise to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I didn't know anything about where we were staying until we arrived and I was not disappointed! A warm welcome from John, a beautiful, clean and comfortable room, a wonderful breakfast. Joy and John are lovely, providing useful information about local attractions, plus a very helpful map with all local eateries! Wouldn't hesitate to recommend (in fact we have already, a day after our visit!). Well worth a visit.

After being given a leaving present from work of a trip for 2 to Ringwood Brewery, I decided (for obvious reasons) to book a B & B in the same road as the Brewery so that we did not have to drive.Booked sat 12.00 trip and then fri & sat nights at this B & B over the phone with Joy. Asked if I needed to confirm but was told no .Arrived and was shown our room. Whole place very old and beige, but clean enough. Saturday morning we had a nice breakfast and went in to town. 11.00am had phone call from John asking why we hadn't booked out. Reminded him that we had booked 2 nights and if he looked on our booking- in form he would see this. Was told that this was wrong and they needed us out immediately as they needed our room for a wedding party, so we needed to come back straight away. They said they would look on the internet and see if they could" help" us get something else.
I did say that I definately booked 2 nights as it would be pointless only booking the one, but I was continually informed that THEY wouldn't have made the mistake.
When we returned they told us that they had booked us into another B & B over the road and could we now pay the bill.( Which was totally over-priced and no discount offered for all the distress caused).
Fortunately "Auld Mother Hubbards" B & B was everything Moortown Lodge was not. Lovely friendly people, beautiful thatched cottage, amazing breakfast and a lot cheaper.

Chose this B&B for a surprise anniversay weekend for our hubbies. Couldnt have asked for a better place. John and Joy are charming people and go out of their way to make you feel at home. The little extras like emergency kit in the bedroom and maps they supply with local info where invaluable. Would definately recommend this place to everyone..

Room Tip: All the rooms are nice !!!

I spent two night here whilst travelling on business and it made a very pleasant change from a bland hotel chain. It may not have the huge rooms and solid build of a modern hotel, but it makes up for that with comfort, well thought out little touches and gold standard service. Some examples; the hosts provide a hand crafted map of the best places to eat in town. A tea/coffee tray which was presented with a style that would put the Ritz to shame. Sun blinds to keep the heat out without blacking out the room.

They are clearly popular, as I've not yet managed to get a second booking! So book well ahead in high season.

We paid for a superior double. The room was large and decorated to a high standard. The bed was soooo cosy, i got in bed to watch tv after diiner, fell asleep and didn't wake up til the morning! Breakfast was great. We had a warm welcome on arrival, with offerings of restaurant recommendations and tips on places to visit in the New Forest. The bottles of water, biscuits and chocolates in the room are a nice touch. The only downside is the B&B is on a main road. We were in a room at the back and the windows were very good so you could only just hear cars if you had the tv turned off and really listened out for them. It may be slightly more noticable in the front rooms. If you could pick the B&B up and drop it in the middle of the New Forest it would be perfect.

Exceptionally warm welcome by the owners. Arriving an hour earlier than planned was no problem for them. Our room was small but exceptionally sumptious!.........free internet. high quality chocolates and biscuits, complimentary bottles local water, cafeteire coffee, all replenished daily. bed was exceptionally comfortable. despite being on a main road, it was surprisingly quiet even with the windows open. The only minor drawback was that the hotel was not nearer the centre of town.......we ate at the next door David lloyd centre where the food was excellent, though the room was not exactly atmospheric!!. We also ate at one of the local pubs. there are many local places to eat had the weather been better and we could have walked to town. We would recommend this to friends and would definitely stay again if we were in the area.
