“Lovely birthday weekend surprise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2011

I surprised my boyfriend with a weekend away in the new forest.

When we arrived and checked into Moortown lodge the lady who greeted us was very kind and helpful! She talked through the restaurants and showed us where the attractions where.

The 4 postsr bed was super comfy and my boyfriend being 6" also agreed!

Breakfast was really lovely and overall a really good stay!

On arrival we were warmly welcomed by Joy who gave us a quick overview of the New Forest in relation to where the B&B was located which was very useful and helped us to find our bearings.

A very handy map is provided with all the restaurants in Ringwood located on it together with their contact details which was extremely useful and again one of those little touches that ensures the holiday runs smoothly.

As others have mentioned, the B&B is on a main road – however don’t let this put you off. It isn’t a massively busy road during the day and come night time there is hardly any traffic at all. Our room was located on the front of the building but I wasn’t aware of any traffic noise during the night.

The room was very spacious and clean and came with all the amenities you would expect. The filter coffee was particularly nice given that most places normally only supply instant. Complimentary bottled water, chocolates and biscuits are replaced each day. Free wi-fi is provided which I didn’t expect – you don’t get this in a lot of the expensive hotels in London!

The breakfast was lovely – I opted for the full English every day – and they were very accommodating in cooking what I asked for (swapped tomatoes and mushrooms for baked beans!) There’s also a choice of cereals and fruit for the more health conscious. If I had to make one recommendation it’s that they should buy some smaller coffee cafétieres. The ones they provide at breakfast are enough for 8 cups which meant I wasted most of it. Cafétiers similar in size to the ones provided in the rooms would be ideal as these make enough for 2 cups.

Ringwood itself is worth a walk round with some nice local shops and a small Sainsbury’s in the middle of town. There are plenty of places to eat in and I can personally recommend the Italian restaurant Al Trullo which we ate in twice, but reserve you table on weekends to avoid disappointment!

If I were to stay in the same area again I would certainly use Moortown Lodge and can recommend it to anybody who wants easy access to the New Forest as well as to shops and restaurants.

I have stayed in many many hotels and Moortown Lodge is the only hotel where ive felt completely welcome and at ease. The room was well equipped with everything you'd need, an emergency kit in the drawer should you forget any essentials. I was particularly impressed with how the owners had compiled a map of the area which showed all the places to eat in Ringwood - we found this extremely useful as its always a pain to find nice places to eat when you're staying in a hotel and not knowing the area. The owners made us feel extremely welcome and were on hand to help / suggest places to visit - it was lovely that they were able to give us their time to do this as some hoteliers are too busy to actually talk to their guests. The breakfast was lovely, very fresh and cooked to order. There was a lovely tranquility about the place, it was very peaceful inside the hotel which i also loved. The only tiny tiny thing that i would suggest - and this is minor, is that the bath didn't have a bath mat inside and was a little bit slippery, but everything else was perfect and very clean.

Everything at Moortown Lodge is of a very high standard. Immaculately presented, spotlessly clean, very welcoming hosts. There was absolutely nothing I could think of that could be improved. I was very impressed and will stay here again.
There are lots of different pubs and restaurants in Ringwood within a short walk of Moortown Lodge. There is a David Lloyd Fitness Centre immediately next door.

We needed to stay in or near the New Forest and decided to stay in a B&B for a change. We were very surprised at how clean and fresh the room was - better than some of the 5* hotels we have stayed in! The room was small but was at the back of the hotel so road noise wasn't a problem.

The hospitality tray was well stocked with real coffee and a cafetiere. The shower was a bit antiquated - the type you have to run around in to get wet, but we had a very good night's sleep and the proprietors were welcoming and helpful. There was even free WiFi available. Parking was a bit limited so we parked over the road which wasn't a problem.

I do recommend the full English cooked breakfast with locally sourced produce; the bacon was the best I've tasted. Only negative was that it was served very early for a Sunday morning!
