“Worst hotel I have ever stayed in”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2011

Looks ok from the pictures on the web but on arrival found the outside tables were covered in uncollected glasses and the floor was covered in cigarette ends. Once inside the family room found it to be dirty and generally run down. The catch to the window of the (family room) was broken and once opened we found we looked out over a flat roof again covered in cigarette ends. The bar staff were generally unhelpful and were swearing and complaining about other staff members and customer in front of us. Lastly as breakfast is not included had to pay each day separately as it could not be added to bill or totalled up for single payment at checkout. The breakfast itself was ok and the guy who served it seemed the best of a bad bunch.

Room Tip: Don't go there

Yes, it's in a really good location, a 2 min walk into the centre of Lyndhurst, however the general quality is terrible.
We were put into a family room, which overlooked the grey side extention for the pub below. The mattresses are very uncomfortable and have plastic sheets over then so you get into bed and slide about all over the place. The shower was dreadful, it took over 5 minutes for the water to warm up and then you had to leave the shower on full blast so it almost took off a layer of skin! There were missing tiles and half the pipes were exposed.
The TV didn't work, it gave sound but no picture.
I would not suggest this hotel to anyone, it needs alot of work doing to it.

We decided to eat at this pub/hotel as it was close to where we were staying.
Ordered food at 7.50pm, food turned up 3/4hr later, wifes meal was stone cold. The pub was also empty, what would they have done if it had been busy?

I dont usally leave reviews about the hotels i stay in but i felt i had to leave something about this hotel. I stayed in room 4 and my first impression of the room was grotty, that was until i entered the bathroom, and the smell of stale urine was unbareable. The shower cubicle was full of mould and the soap dispenser was dirty and looked rusty inside. The carpets are thread bare in the room, but on the landings they are even worse. They are dirty and the Hotel smells disgusting, i really dont know how they have got the nerve to charge people £50 a night i think i would have rather slept in the beer garden. The hotel is in great need of a good cleaner and a decorator.

Didn't even check in after checking the room out.
The room looked very rough round the edges and not at all like the 'nice' photos that have been taken and appear on websites. The net curtains were filthy as was the shower tray. We found a better hotel through the tourist information centre, who were really helpful.

Entrance is via the large pub which serves the north side of town. Bar service was very poor, we had to wait for some time for one member of staff to struggle serving a large number of drinkers prior to dealing with us wanting to check in. There is NO REAL ALE (contrary to what I read on a website that found the venue) and the pub is a bog standard no-character, modern affair. Room prices DO NOT include breakfast. We walked the short distance to the town centre and had a good fry up for a fiver in the morning - we were not going to risk the service again, and the cafe was cheaper. The car park is excellent, it is a pleasant area, and was nice and quiet at night.
It is a cheap and effective base for operations, but I wouldn't use it for anything other than sleeping and parking.

I think the reviews on this website make this hotel out to be a nightmare but it isnt. I found our room (No. 7) clean and smart and even had nice toiletries in the bathroom and tea tray! Had a nice view over the garden and the room was a good size and quiet throughout the night. No bad smells and no mould....would definately recommend it. It actually smelt nice and fresh! Yeh hotel reception wasnt manned and the chef/manager was cooking so we couldnt check us in straight away, but this was no issue as had a glass of wine and relaxed until 5 mins later he came out and took me to our room. I think this was a nice room for £50 a night. Our friends stayed in a B&B down the road for £78 a night and felt ripped off as ours was so nice! Felt i needed to write this review as was getting lots of unneccessary flack!
