We stayed at the hotel in October 2006. The room was on the second floor up a narrow, steep, creaky staircase. The room was very clean with spacious bathroom and very comfortable beds. However, it lacked something and then we relised it was not very homely having no pictures on the walls and dated light fittings. We had a problem with the shower but it was promptly fixed. The breakfast was good, served 8.15 - 9.30 am, with good service. There was a nice conservatory but smokers were allowed to use it, so we didn't make use of it. The hotel is set back from the road, but you can still hear the traffic all through the night. Dogs are allowed, but there was no evdence of dog hairs etc as the hotel is kept very clean. It is close to the village and we had a chinese meal in the village which was excellent and an Italian which was not so good.
Lyndhurst is a good central location, with a small selection of pubs, restaurants, shops, visitor centre etc, but you need to go to Burley and Brockenhurst to see the ponies
