We stayed at the hotel in October 2006. The room was on the second floor up a narrow, steep, creaky staircase. The room was very clean with spacious bathroom and very comfortable beds. However, it lacked something and then we relised it was not very homely having no pictures on the walls and dated light fittings. We had a problem with the shower but it was promptly fixed. The breakfast was good, served 8.15 - 9.30 am, with good service. There was a nice conservatory but smokers were allowed to use it, so we didn't make use of it. The hotel is set back from the road, but you can still hear the traffic all through the night. Dogs are allowed, but there was no evdence of dog hairs etc as the hotel is kept very clean. It is close to the village and we had a chinese meal in the village which was excellent and an Italian which was not so good.

Lyndhurst is a good central location, with a small selection of pubs, restaurants, shops, visitor centre etc, but you need to go to Burley and Brockenhurst to see the ponies

We have just returned from a stay at the Ormonde House Hotel, the rooms were clean but did not have any views and the road outside was very busy and noisy even during the night.

I would not recommend eating the evening meal for more than 2 nights as the menu is limited and un-imaginative with only the specials changing. The specials seemed to mirror what was already available on the ordinary menu so were not very special and most dishes were served up with either a mustard vinegarette and/or mash potatoes. As to the desserts I wouldn't say they were anything to write home about, they lacked imagination and thought.

The staff are attentive but lack the finess you would expect from a star rated hotel.

I would not recommend the hotel to a friend even though it is dog friendly.

Stayed here between Christmas and New Year for a quiet break with my boyfriend. Having been to the New Forest before when I was younger, it is an ideal place to have a rest in beautiful surroundings.

We stayed in room number 12 which overlooks a wonderful view of the heathland just along from Bolton's Bench. It is within easy walking reach of the main town (about 5 minutes) and a stone's throw from several satisfying walks!

The hotel itself is small and cosy with friendly and helpful staff, excellent service and attention to detail. We were greeted on arrival with a warm welcome and made to feel right at home. The food was great value for money (we ate dinner there once and breakfast twice) and cannot be faulted.

Our room was spacious and light, with a huge spa bath to relax in after a huge helping of clean, fresh new forest air.

This really is a gem of a place, and we felt that having just found tripadvisor to be so helpful - this is one place that deserves a round of applause.

My Boyfriend and i stayed in the Ormonde House Hotel in Lyndhurst for a long weekend this August. On arrival we were thrilled because unlike all the other B&B's and Hotels in and around Lyndhurst, it was set back from the road which can get a little busy (as do all the roads in that area during holiday season.) After being greeted by the staff and checking in, we were shown to our room which was beautiful. It had a lovely bathroom (complete with luxury soaps and shampoos), a big comfortable bed, a sofa and everything was really clean. It was lovely just to sit and relax in there.
We walked into Lyndhurst during the evenings as there are a lot of restaurants and pubs, the walk takes about 5 minutes and we visited a couple of the places recommended by staff, again, superb. We came back for a night cap in the cosy bar at the hotel where you can take your drink to your room if you would prefer.
After a lovely nights sleep, we had a famous New Forest breakfast with juices of our choice, fresh fruit, cereals and yoghurt. The waiting staff are great and will ask the chef to do you any combination of what you might like. Breakfast starts at 8.15 and finishes at 9.30am which is not too early as there is so much to pack into a day in the New Forest!
The Hotel provides lots of info about what there is to see and do in and around the New Forest and all the staff are really great, they made our stay at the Ormode House Hotel absolutely perfect and we will, without a doubt, be returning as soon as we can. From experience, i can highly recommend it.

I have just returned from a short break (2 nights) at the Ormonde House Hotel. Could not fault the food nor the service. In fact they were almost too attentive with no time between courses at dinner, unless you requested a 5 minute interval. Found the breakfast times ended a little early - 9.30. A little later on a Sunday would have been preferable, possibly 10.00. Found the Hotel very pleasant for a short break although the Hotel is on a noisy road and at night you could feel the Hotel shake. A typical English old worldly hotel.
