Needed to be on the outskirts of Southampton for meeting so decided to stop at the Rufus house, i had stayed there maybe 3-4 years ago and again found the hotel, rooms, wifi, breakfast and staff very good. As the hotel is only B&B i went out for an evening meal and you are literally 300-400 yards from the main street in Lyndhurst with plenty of places to eat.

I was surprised with a weekend away in Lyndhurst, staying at Rufus House last September.
On entering the New forest, I was blown away by the natural beauty and quaintness of the local High Street.

We checked into the guest house swiftly and was shown our room on the bottom floor, at the front of the house.
I was amazed to find an enormous room, large bed and even a seating area right by the beautiful bay window.
The Decor was gentle and everything was immaculate.
Amazing shower which is more than needed after a muddy walk through the new forest.

On checking out, we still wished to go for an explore in the morning, and the lady at front desk kindly let us lock up our bags (we came via public transport) in the dry outside shed for us to collect on our return.

It was an amazingly relaxing, romantic little guest house which aided in making our trip to the new forest superb!

Room Tip: Downstairs by the front was a gorgeous room, however I bet they're all as lovely!

We stayed at the Rufus House for five nights in a turret room with ensuite facilities.

Our accommodation was spacious and well appointed. The ensuite was a very good size with good quality toiletries. The mini bar (additional cost) and complementary fresh fruit on arrival together with in room tea/coffee making facilities were very welcome.

Our only negative comment is that the bed was very creaky.

Our hosts were charming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble, we will definitely be returning - thank you Etsuko and Ernesto

Stayed at Rufus House in January 2013 for 2 nights at the weekend.
Very friendly host, great size room (turret room) and great location, near enough to walk to the town, but far enough away to feel like you're not on top of everything. Great local walks, pubs and restaurants. On-site parking very helpful.

Room Tip: First floor turret room was great, lots of space.

great location and lovely people. lots of good walking and the village is an easy stroll. the shower was really weak and the TV was tiny. We got stung when offered breakfast and subsequently charged £40 for it - this was not mentioned anywhere. It was not good value for money.

Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that you were unhappy to pay breakfast and you did not notice Booking Agent’s confirmation stating that your booking was made room only bases. At the time of check-in, with agent booked clients, we explain this aspect and ask “whether breakfast is required”; we notify our breakfast price, so I am certain that it should not be any surprise upon your settling the bill. We trust this applied your case.

For the avoidance of doubt, any booking made directly with Rufus House, our rates include breakfast.

We sell Room Only Option via booking agents, as we receive many requests for “no breakfast with lower priced option”. One type of rooms we sell via booking agents is with breakfast bases, so please look for “with breakfast” type of room, should you use booking agents.

Our booking agent clearly states the difference, however if you believe that they mis-sold this room to you, please make direct contact to the agent with confirmation you received from them, they are always very helpful and in the case of their error, it would reimburse the cost.

Your 2nd comment on small TV: The TV in your room is 19-inch LED, we think it is appropriate for the size of room.

3rd comment on shower pressure: We regularly clean shower filters to protect from hard water; we sincerely apologise as you found the shower pressure low during your stay. Should you have notified us, we would have called plumber and rectified immediately.

We hope you would visit and try Rufus House again perhaps late spring when you would see new born fouls and beautiful flowers,we look forward to receiving your direct booking.

With warmest regards
Etsuko
