“Good food and friendly service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

We came here for dinner whilst staying in the hotel recently. This restaurant has a great menu and the food was very good. I particularly enjoyed the steak. They also have a good wine list.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and efficient. I can recommend this restaurant.

“New menu, trying hard”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2012

the hotel has a new owner who's refurbishing, the chef has a new menu, and I think the wait staff have a new routine - good food, but a little disorganised and felt a bit 'caught by surprise' by some simple things. Overall good though.

“A bit overpriced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2012

Very typical Brasserie menu and I thought a bit pricey, although we paid as part of an overnight package. I agree with a previous reviewer that a side plate of fresh vegetables should have been included in the set price . Large plateful of food, nicely cooked and served by very friendly staff. Wines were good and sensibly priced.

“Our Fawlty Towers experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2012

My husband, daughter and I booked a table for lunch at this hotel prior to going to a family funeral in Lyndhurst, nearly four hours away from our home by car. However the 'round the houses' way in which our telephone call was directed via a centre dealing with all the hotels belonging to the group should have given us an inkling of the inadequacies of the place and what we were about to experience.
When we arrived at 12.30 we ordered very basic meals (which was all that the menu offered) of a Mediterranean vegetable Panini with goat's cheese and coleslaw, and home made burgers with chips and a salad for the two remaining people. After 35 minutes when the meal showed no signs of arriving even though other diners who had arrived after us had been served and were leaving, we called the waiter to our table. He said he was sorry but our order had been overlooked as they were undertaking renovations in the kitchens! After a further 15 minutes our food arrived consisting of the following:

One Panini with goats cheese and a slice of courgette, no Mediterranean vegetables and some crisps and no coleslaw.

Two burgers which when tasted were so salty and red raw we couldn't eat plus the chips, and salads. Oh and coleslaw which should have accompanied the Panini!

We called the waiter back and explained that we needed to be at the Church across the road in another 40 minutes and we had to have something to eat. We reordered two bowls of tomato soup and a prawn, tomato and mayonnaise sandwich. Surely they would be able to deliver this. Not so! This duly arrived after some delay without the tomato in the heavily crusted sliced dry bread and and an excess of basil oil in the tomato soup.
By this time we had completely lost our appetites and were just glad to scuttle across to Church in time for the 2.15 service.

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2012

Poor menu for hotel of this quality. Meals lacked sauces and were not very adventurous. Also, vegetables were offered as extras and therefore carried an extra cost.
