“Good value/excellent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2011

I stayed one night to visit an event at the National Motor Museum next day. My single room turned out to be a reasonable-sized double with a good bathroom. Staff (especially Alex and Beryl) were very helpful and the breakfast (included in my £50) was excellent.
I ate in the Spanish-style restaurant and was pleasantly surprised again by the quality and value; the word needs to get around Lyndhurst as it was very quiet on a Saturday evening!
It's also an excellent base for the New Forest (almost literally on the doorstep).
All in all - you get what you pay for here and I would return; if you want five star prices. go elsewhere!

Overall the hotel is reasonable but the mattress in my room was obviously old and had become very uncomfortable. I found it difficult to sleep and was not very refreshed in the morning. I would not stay in this hotel again. There are plenty of nice B&Bs in Lyndhurst for similar or lower price.

It was my 4th different bed that week while away on business-the beds and pillows are cheap and uncomfortable. Shower in the eaves, so if you are over 4'11'' there is no way to stand under it.
Breakfast allegedly starts at 7.30am, but there was no sign of life at that time of the morning on either day. The whole place was locked up which made exiting to work a novel experience.
Had dinner one night, the tapas were passable ate in a pub the next. Modernised interior leads one into a false sense that the place is better than it actually is. It could do alot better.

We booked a double and got a twin with the beds pushed together – not very comfortable is you want to cuddle up at night.

The hotel is a very old building and although it’s lovely, it had its down side – squeaky/creaky floorboards, narrow hallways (bit like a rabbit warren) and no lift. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to the old or infirm

The staff were very friendly though, the breakfast was hot and filled us up ready to explore the forest and the shower was nice and powerful

We spent 3 nights at the Stag, with family and friends. What a lovely place.

The hotel Manager and staff could not have been more accommodating and friendly. We had three family rooms, all of which were good and the breakfast was lovely.

The hotel bar is modern and welcoming. You can choose from eating in the hotel's restaurant which is a bit more formal or opt for going next door to the pub which is also owned by the hotel, where you can eat reasonably with a good selection for all ages, especially with lots of children in tow.

The location of the hotel is right in the middle of Lyndhurst, but is not terribly noisy even if you are in one of the front rooms, which I loved - to sit at the big bay window and look out over the High Street. This is a great location for visiting Beaulieu, the New Forest and also the coast at Highcliff etc.

Would definitely recommend and we will definitely return for another break.

We stayed here the night before a cycling event. When I booked I was advised immediately that they had a function on that night and that there may be music until midnight. However they booked us into a room at the front of the hotel which was far enough away from the function that we were not disturbed at all.

The room itself was large, well equipped and comfortable also retaining some lovely period features including a beautiful corner window looking out over some very nice cars.

The room, furniture and linen were very clean and the bathroom was clean and well stocked with towels

Our room rate was bed & breakfast and as we would be setting off before their usual breakfast service they very kindly arranged for a continental breakfast to be left outside our room in time for us to eat before leaving.

My only negative and it is a small one was that the television in the room was small and quite old - just not what you expect to find in these modern times although there was a set top digi box with all the usual free channels.

The staff were very helpful and friendly and it felt like nothing was too much trouble either at the time of booking or during our stay.

I only wish we had been able to stay for longer.

Stayed here one night before cruising from Southampton. Whilst our room was quite big it was very old and tired. The sofa was worn and had holes in the arms. The two single beds which had been pushed together as a king and 2 bedspreads on, both with splits and holes in. The bathroom (which had no window) was very dark and hot and the plumbing was not good. Meal in the restaurant was nice and breakfast was good. At £95 for bed and breakfast we felt this was a bit steep for the quality of accommodation but i guess it is in the middle of the New Forest.
