“Really friendly top notch hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

This was our second visit to Chewton Glen hotel and it didn't disappoint - just a few improvement suggestions, after all you expect near perfection in this price range.

We stayed in a lodge room which was 2 floors - perfect for my teenage daughter to have some privacy and generally very spacious, adding to the relaxing feeling of the place.

The reception are very welcoming and friendly, in fact the whole staff are really good. The restaurant is very nice and the food exceptional.

Improvement areas - the bar/lounge which extends outside in good weather - took longer that it should to get served and the lounge menu (if you want a break from the main restaurant) is a bit weak to be honest.

However I must put that into context - they are minor issues in an otherwise fabulous hotel. The Chewton Glen is a pretty special experience all round and highly recommended.

My partner and I went for our honeymoon for four nights in June. It was a truly exceptional experience in every respect. The tree house suite was fantastically w.ell designed and spacious with all the modern equipment you could want, including a tablet which allowed you to contact reception, manage the audio visual functions throughout the room and order from the room service menu. The quality of the spa area was really impressive, we had two treatments of lomi lomi massages which were sensationally relaxing. The pools were well designed and just the right temperature (especially the outdoor one). Our tree house manager, David, was excellent and really made our stay special and memorable. We ate at the restaurant twice and were impressed with the selection of wines on offer. All in all a brilliant honeymoon made special by the staff and the place itself. Looking forward to our anniversary!

We booked a 2 night stay in the treehouse loft suite for my birthday. After a hectic day at Peppa Pig World we were exhausted when we arrived and duly made our way to the treehouse car park where we had been instructed by email to arrive and our concierge would meet us with one of the golf buggies to escort us with our luggage to our treehouse. After a few minutes our concierge arrived but there was not a golf buggy to be seen, we waited and waited and watched as someone in an Aston Martin arriving after us got into a golf buggy and was whisked away, then someone else appearing from the woods in another golf buggy to pick up their dog from their car whilst we stood waiting in the cold and drizzly rain, my daughter was jumping up and down as she was desperate for the bathroom and my mood not getting any better I had to ask if she could use the bathroom somewhere. We were taken into the first treehouse which is next to the car pak to use the facilities and warm up a bit, my son climbing the bookcase to have a look upstairs noticed a PS3 in the room and was overjoyed at this. After about half an hour wait we finally got our ride to our treehouse.

The treehouse is out of this world, there were little gifts waiting for us and plates of fruit for the kids, a fridge stocked with essentials, a really comfortable bed, an amazing bathroom, a funky bookcase-come-ladder to the kids bedroom (which I wasn't too keen on negotiating but the kids loved it) unfortunately there was no PS3 in our treehouse, why? (my son was most disappointed having seen it in the other one).

We received a phone call from the manager to apologise for the mix up at check in which was appreciated but shouldn't have had to receive in the first place.

We decided to order dinner to our treehouse as we were all very tired from our busy day. We were delighted to find that the chef had prepared a special dairy free meal for my son along with a dessert (which he can rarely have when dining out) top marks for this! when the meal arrived we had set it all out only to find some of the starters were missing! We were starting to get a little annoyed at this point as these treehouses dont come cheap, £1000 per night to be precise and I really expect nothing less than perfection for that price but the service up until then was far from it.

The breakfast hampers were out of this world, a special dairy free hamper was also provided for my son which was amazing. The breakfast kept us going all day.

The spa treatment was good, not the best I've had but was still very relaxing. The pool needs to be more child freindly, we could only use it with the kids between 9am-10.30am and 4pm-5.30pm, this is not acceptable especially as the pool was deserted when we left at 10.30am and there is also another adult only pool in another area and the amount of stairs you have to negotiate from the changing rooms to the pool is ridiculous.

On the whole we enjoyed our stay, it started off on a sour note that I never quite got over, I don't think I will return especially not at that price, its just not worth it. I've stayed at many luxury hotels which have cost half the price and have been twice as good.

Compliments must go to the chef though for the special meals prepared and the wonderful breakfast.

great setting, excellent spa and pool, nice restaurant and fabulous staff (bar problem below). generous rooms (stayed in main house but treehouses looked amazing from outside). excellent breakfast and restaurant meals. only improvement suggestion would be the bar which offers only disappointing food options and staff was completely overwhelmed and in stark contrast to the rest of staff seemingly not well trained. for example, four waiters were unable to serve eight outdoor tables. they didn't clear the tables and instead kept going inside empty. they only managed to attend to customers every 5-10mins. people ended up going inside and we had to get water from our room since we were told the barman was too busy to bring water (28C outside temperature). our drinks also got forgotten, in the end we were told our sandwiches and drinks were complimentary only to find them on the final bill....seemed like the bar and its menu is a completely different venue to the rest or this otherwise gorgeous hotel.

Booked a tree house for one night as a surprise for my husband. On arrival we managed to book in much earlier than planned, then we entered the tree house !!!!. Amazing, subtle colours, hotel iPad with info and to order food. Settling is idilic, secluded and special, you don't have to talk to anyone for your entire stay if you don't want to!!. However, the French concierge was fantastic, helpful friendly and focussed on the customer. Hot tub on the decking was fab, we had treatments in the spa which were good. Only slight blip was the dinner hamper had missed out a starter and side dish so we had to wait patiently until we started our meal. Overall a great trip, just wish it was a bit cheaper and we'd have stayed for 2 nights !!!!

We have reluctantly returned from an all too short residence at a hot and sunny Chewton Glen. This was a first time stay for us and indeed all of our super sales team who joined us as our way of saying a big thank you for their huge efforts this year. Plainly we wanted the team to be pampered and thoroughly relish their time at what promised to be a superb venue. We were not disappointed and actually considered claiming squatter’s rights around the pool on our last afternoon!

From our first contact with the hotel (thanks to Nikki) to enquire about a group booking, to the point at which we checked out to leave, the staff could not have been more friendly, more relaxed, more helpful or more knowledgeable. Take note Limewood - we made the same enquiry and they never even replied to the initial email!

We arrived to be warmly greeted by an unimposing army of staff who whisked bags, cars and people in various directions without hassle. The detail in this hotel appears to be everything with nothing or little overlooked. All the rooms got great reviews from the team, but a special mention must be saved for the stunning tree house suite for one lucky couple. These really do have to be seen, and although painfully expensive, the experience was memorable and dare I suggest worth it? The hidden breakfast hamper magically appearing is almost worth it alone, especially when we spotted two deer directly in front of our balcony eating their breakfast in harmony!

Seven of our party had spa treatments which were again presented and delivered beautifully, while others lounged around the outdoor pool. The small things matter on a hot day, and a cold box with bottles of water is a nice little touch which costs the hotel little but makes you feel somehow warm!

Dinner in the wine room was one of the best and compares well to any Michelin restaurant any of the team had experienced. We want the Tuna Tartar recipe! We wanted to indulge in British wine which sent our wine waitress into spasms of excitement as she led us through the British element to their massive wine list.

I feel slightly apologetic that we can’t be more constructively critical, but credit has to be given for this fantastic stay.

Finally at checkout, the team appeared with bottles of chilled water and biscuits for the journey home on a hot day. A final parting note.

It actually got to the point where we all started to play our new favourite game, ‘nit picking’ i.e. how could our stay have been better. This was a hard one and we resorted to things like . . . ice in a milk shake should be crushed and not whole cubes; the chocolate in the room fridges wasn’t made by us [we are a chocolate company]; and most significantly, our dessert wine arrived about 90 seconds after the food and not before!

We will be sending a thank you and some quality chocolate for the CG team to sample.

Room Tip: Splash out a get a tree house!

This hotel is absolutely wonderful. In a beautiful quite spot near the south coast. The service was fantastic from start to finish, nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. The rooms were very spacious and the decor was perfect. When we arrived lots of people were having what looked like a very tasty afternoon tea, I think the tea is optional as many had glasses of champagne :-) The food was very very tasty and the wine list amazing, breakfast was great too. We got to see the tree houses and I want to stay in one of these on my next visit, they were amazing!! Overall A+++++
