“Great Family Holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

Stayed in a privately owned lodge on Chewton cliffs and the lodge itself and position were excellent. Some other areas of the park are looking very tired but overall we were very happy with the park. Went swimming three times - toddler pool very cold one day. Braved the outdoor pool on our last day and it was cold but Ok once you had been in a few minutes. Children loved the games room, play park and enjoyed the evening entertainment although the Solent room is not big enough to accommodate everyone ( we were there Spring Bank week) and unless you got there early you had to stand. Tried to eat in Smugglers Retreat but again too busy. Went to the Cliffhanger Café just down the cliff side and it was excellent.
Would definitely go back.

We have stayed here several times with our 1 year old. Overall this is a lovely park but it is let down by a don't care attitude. The park is appealing to a broader market with the addition of new lodge style homes, for sale at an astronomical price of around 160k for 35 years. For this you would expect a high level of service. Unfortunately on the recent occasions we have stayed here, we have found the same issues are always present. The baby pool is kept at around 26 degrees which is a lower temperature than the adult pool and is frankly ridiculous. We have raised this 3 times with staff who make various excuses from 'it's policy' to 'there is a problem with the pump' to the inevitable 'i will pass it on to the manager' which is an easy way to fob a customer off. The pool also closes at 7pm, so any hopes of getting some relaxation time after the kids are in bed is not an option. The shop is expensive and poorly stocked with old and past its best fresh fruit and veg. The grass seems to hardly ever get cut so on a wet day you are guaranteed wet feet as soon as you leave your chalet.

These are easily resolvable gripes, however what galls me as a customer is that nothing ever changes.

If this park wants to appeal to people who are paying hundreds of thousands of pounds for a 35 year lease it really needs to get its act together fast and act on customer feedback rather than ignoring it. Lazyness isn't good enough.

we stayed in a solent lodge for 8 people. went with our 2 children who are 4 and 2 and my parents. there was plenty of room for the 6 of us. the lodge was clean and well kept but was starting to look like it needed a bit of tlc. having said that it was still in an excellent condition for us.
swimming pool was very child friendly. went in it twice and the 2nd time it was a lot colder than the first. my daughter didn't seem to mind.
we ate in the smugglers retreat once, food was cheap and was very good quality for the price. would of gone again but went nearer the end of our stay.
my children loved the bowling on site, which u had to pay 1.50 a person for. it was a very basic bowling but for my 2 children they were very impressed.
we used the on site shop a few times, and whilst this was quite expensive it had the very basics when needed. and my dad brought his paper there each morning!
was an ideal base for visiting the new forest and would go again if we wanted to visit the area again.

We have just returned from a week at Hoburne Naish where we stayed in the Chewton Cliffs lodges. The accommodation itself was excellent, the lodge being very well appointed, clean and comfortable, however it's difficult to apply this to all accommodation on the park because the lodge we stayed in was privately owned and there is obviously a very wide range of standards here

Check in was smooth and straight forward, and the staff seemed to be very helpful and friendly. Was a little disappointed that wifi was charged at £25 per week, per device, but as I need to do some work we paid the money, but we did ask beforehand whether it was fast and reliable. The receptionist ensured us it was but that turned out to be not true! It was extremely slow and didn't work for approx 25% of our time, however I didn't go in and complain and ask for a resolution so not necessarily their fault.
On the positive side the staff were fantastic at helping us sort our isle of wight ferry booking.

The bar was a touch expensive we felt (and we're used to London prices) but it was friendly and welcoming, if a little loud at times. We ate in the restaurant on one night and the food was very cheap and good value for money. Obviously not a la carte dining, but still very pleasant for the price.

We didn't try out the swimming pool, so can't comment on that, but was shocked to over hear the receptionist tell another family that towel rental was £10 deposit plus £8 per towel! So be warned....take your own towels! We were going to try the crazy golf, but after looking at it, decided not to bother! It was more of a golf course on a car park tarmac! The onsite shop also left a bit to be desired, selling a wide range of childrens toys and sweet, but not so much actual food. Plus it would have be great to have a costa or starbucks on site too.

Having said all that, don't be put off! This is a cracking park, with some of the most spectacular views, and the peace and quiet was exactly what we were looking for. At night it was very quiet and we felt very safe their, sitting out on our balcony well into the night.

The location is also great, being so close to Christchurch, Bournemouth and the Isle of Wight ferry. So its a perfect base for lots of day trips - we did stonehenge and Salisbury also which was a comfortable 70-90 minute drive.

Overall I would absolutely recommend this park and we'll definitely be visiting again, but with a few small improvements, (such as better shop and improved wifi!) it could be perfect.

Have been twice this year already! (March (Me & my friend) & April/May (Family)) and going again in June. We just can't leave this place alone it seems. amazing service right from when you step into reception, Great service from bar staff with reasonable prices for food... Great new deals for 2013! Loving the new machines in the arcade 'Tickets for Prizes!' - Had a 4 year old with us in April/May and of course he was always busy, ball pit, swimming, crazy golf, football, playground, arcade... He even popped into the daytime entertainment. We spent all evening over in the evening entertainment, 1 night there was 2 tables in, they still put on a whole show for us! The room was virtually empty most nights, yet we were still entertained from opening till closing! Great work! I have lost count how many times we have been here since 2005, but its been about 2 or 3 times a year!! Great Work guys and see you in June... (7 Weeks yesterday yay!)

Room Tip: Cliff Top places are amazing for views! Lodges are best for Space!

We have stayed at Hoburne Naish on several occasions over the years always choosing a Solent Lodge. These undergo upgrades at various intervals and although the decor may not be to everybodies taste they are practical and comfy.
There have been a few changes in recent years not least a redesign of the leisure complex. In many ways this is an improvement with a nice kids pool, decent changing facilities etc. but I do miss the old main pool with its abundance of natural light.
We have used the Bar and kids play area and they are of a decent standard and we have always found the reception staff helpful when planning days out and obtaining discount tickets for local attractions.
The nearby coastline suffers from some pretty serious erosion and although its nice to stroll through the park to have a look at the sea caution needs to be exercised when accompanying young children. (Its nice to look out and see the Isle of Wight and the Needles) especially at dusk.
There is a good grass area for playing ball games etc.and the various types of holiday property along with privately owned places make for an interesting blend.

Nearby Avon Beach is like an old friend. You can park your car right on the seafront and enjoy the location and maybe take a walk over to nearby Mudeford Quay.

Bournemouth, Ringwood,Christchurch and Lymington are well worth the visit as is the beautiful New Forest National Park.

There is a Tesco store only 2 miles away and a very good butchers in the village of Sway. Ringwood and New Milton have weekly markets and visitor attractions like Beaulieu, Bucklers Hard and the Titanic exhibition are well worth a look.

Stayed here during Easter holidays with my husband and 2 children aged 10 and 6 years. Stayed in a Becton Lodge on the Glen. Wow! We couldnt believe our eyes when we first went into the lodge, how lovely & spotlessly clean it was. It was well equipped, with sky tv, a dvd & even an xbox in the lounge. I couldnt believe how clean it was inside, you would have thought it had never been used before! Lovely comfortable beds with plenty of storage space in the bedrooms. Lovely verandah with table & chairs outside. Our lodge was facing the reception but we never heard any noise at all at night.
There's plenty to do on the park. We used the swimming pool which was great, although maybe a little cold, but didnt really bother us.
We ate in the restaurant one night which too, was great, plenty of choice on the menu, good value & the food was good too.
The only thing I would say is that the clubhouse is quite small compared to the size of the park, so if you want to go in for the childrens entertainment, which starts about 6.30/6.45 ish, you need to be in there just after 6pm to get a seat. Having visitied the area many many times before, we knew there were so many lovely places to visit nearby, lots of places to eat & things to see & do, that we didnt really bother with the entertainment on site.
All in all this was an excellent holiday in our favourite part of the country, in a beautiful lodge on a lovely clean, well kept site.
We will definitely return!
