I stayed here probably a year or more ago, not long after it opened and it had that nice "newness" about it... I'm afraid it now has touches of nasty "not-so-newness" about it..
As other reviewers have said, some rooms (1st floor?) "enjoy" the rumbling of some kind of plant throughout the night. The bed wasn't particularly well made (sheets on the bed were a bit rumpled - but I don't think it had been slept in - they looked clean enough!); some dodgey "splodges" on the sofa bed; beer bottles on the ledge outside the window - nothing serious, but you knew you weren't in a 5 star!
The other things that spoiled the stay were not the direct responsibility of the hotel. Parking is an issue. Whilst the Sainsbury's car park is now free after 6.00pm - you have to be up at 7.00 am to go and put money in the machine to avoid a parking ticket. Frustratingly, you cannot "pre-pay". (There are other car parks a little further away where you pay £1 for overnight parking which give you to 8.00 am before day charging kicks in). The second spoiler is how busy the often quiet Wetherspoons just around the corner gets on Curry & a pint Thursday. I tried waiting for a table but gave up around 9.15pm. I then made the really big mistake of going just up the road to Mimosa "All you can eat" Oriental buffet. Clearly, thursdays are not busy nights for them (I guess 'cos of Spoons bargain prices) and so realistically they should have turned me away because even as I sat down, staff started clearing away the now pretty dried up, unappetising food. Oh well - it was a nice bottle of Tsingtao!
