“One odd waiter and six poor portions of food!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013 via mobile

For what could be a lovely pub the weirdness of one of the waiters really spoilt the evening. I would describe him as overly fake and a poor mans Basil Faulty / Mr Bean! Even the manager seemed to join in, being overly posh as some kind of peculiar act. Having placed our order the next disappointment was the food. I ordered the burger which was very dry and lacking flavour. The tiny portion of chips bordered on a joke for a meal costing £9.25. One of us ordered the soup for a starter and the portion was 1/3 of a tin of soup... Pure mean portion size. By this point we decided to ditch desert and head home early. Sadly I'd avoid going here again anytime soon.

“Had a great time with some great friends in a really crappy place.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2013 via mobile

We had dogs with us so we elected to sit outside on the decking. The clapboard lakeside exterior was more pleasing than the vapid chain pub interior anyway. Standard menu, posh sounding but not particularly rich or interesting, bit over priced too. The take home feelings of unwelcomness though were down to one of the waiters who whose weirdness was jarring at the time, but hilarious in retrospect. He was sarkiness and social awkwardness was Fawlty-esque and he even rolled his eyes when I ordered a coffee. We didn't complain through fear that he'd do something horrible to our desserts (pre-ordering these was obviously far too much trouble for them too). The waitress was nice and friendly though, shame her colleague denied her any gratuity from us. The place was dead quiet, yet tailoring chips into cheesy chips for us was a herculean effort as was supplying condiments. They weren't supposed to be serving food outside we were reminded twice. I didn't banter with the chap at all because it might have got ugly, as he was obviously having a bad day. In summary, if you wish to patronise this non-destination gastro-pub and be patronised yourself then do it. In fact, I urge you to.

“A hidden gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

beautifull surroundings and very helpful polite staff, I came across the area after being diverted from the nearby motorway, pure luck to find such a clean friendly place to have a quick lunch and relax, great menu with something for everyone.

“Wary if large party”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

Firstly I'd like to say that we have visited Fishers Pond numerous times over past 7 years and generally been really pleased hence reason for booking our daughter's 18th on Chrismas Eve for a party of 12. We booked well in advance, all meal selections were given in a week in advance as requested so all would be ready on the night. On the evening the restaurant was half full, if that, so not busy. Had to wait half an hour for drinks - bar staff told us waiter would do drinks as we were eating there - apparently order had not got through to the bar!. Then told that there was no fillet steak (had a week to source some) Starters arrived 1.5 hr after our arrival. One of main meals did not arrive with others, apparently request hadn't gone through to kitchen and when it did arrive a medium/rare steak arrived when requested medium/well-done. Waiter apologetic and manager called over who seemed not too interested and thought a 20% discount would suffice. Apparently all the ordering issues were to do with electronic ordering system not functioning properly! Christmas Eve and an 18th with pre-selected meals a week in advance - is manual ordering too difficult? We had booked a 6.30pm meal so that relatives attending from the North West had time to get back home that evening. Needless to say we ate our sweet and left as we had no time for birthday cake. What an 18th to remember. I am quite embarrassed as I was the one who had arranged it all.
