“Impeccable and I only wished I lived nearby”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

What a great pub ! Incredibly stylish and immaculate; a very obliging chef and staff team , well-trained, professional. The food was outstanding and oh the lemon posset desert was phenomenal.
This place is simply great for all types of eating and drinking.
Very well done and thank you for a great business evening out for our group last week

“Gutted”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

We have been eating at The Hurdles for a good 3 years now. It is one of those places where we could always guarantee a good meal and good service, it is also a place I constantly recommend too friends, family and my customers whenever the subject of eating out comes up. We celebrate family birthdays there on a regular basis and if we are out with friends trying to decide where to eat we always try and direct them to The Hurdles. That all changed during our last visit and I am not even sure we will bother going again. We turned up and sat down and watched another 2 parties come in and sit down, after their drink orders where taken it was finally our turn. We then had quite a long wait to even order our food and had to ask if we could order in the end. Every now and again we go out and feel like we are invisible to the members of staff and this was one of those times. Everybody elses food turned up and was eaten while we where still waiting and not even an explanation was given until we asked. I really don't know what has happened to that place but what was once one of our favourite places to eat with great service is now being avoided. Gutted.

“Enjoyable visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

The Hudles had been recommended to us, so on the spur of the moment we decided to try it on a Saturday lunchtime, the dining room had a couple of large groups in so the waitress offered us a good table in the bar area, although the chairs at the table were for more casual seating our elderly guests ask for dining chairs and they were quickly changed without any fuss. The rest of the seats in the dining room and outside quickly filled up.

The menu had a good range and the food was definitely home cooked, it was also well presented. My husband had Salmon and Prawn FishCake - it had to be the biggest FishCake we had even seen! We also had Fish and Chips and Calves Liver, all were good quality.

We thought very good value for money and service and would visit again when in the area.

“Excellent Sunday lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2013

A dozen of my family celebrated my wife's birthday with Sunday lunch at the Hurdles. The quality of the food was excellent, with generous portions, and extra vegetables came on request at no extra charge. Service was fine, and the staff kindly served a birthday cake that we brought with us, overall a good experience.

“Lack of atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2013

The quality of the food and service at The Hurdles is not in doubt, reasonably priced and a couple of Real Ales on tap, the Goddards especially tasty. The only negative to our evening has to be the lack of a positive atmosphere throughout the restaurant. The decor whilst trying to be elegant gives the room a stark feel not helped by the high ceilings unfortunately giving a less than cosy feel. Softer lighting i'm sure would help. The management, i feel certain, will eventually address this issue as it would be a shame to miss out on repeat business as customers have other choices of restaurants not far away.
