“Rural idyll”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013 via mobile

It is said the original owner of the mansion that forms the heart of the Four Seasons Hampshire moved his estate's village and residents a short distance to the east so that his wife had an uninterrupted view from her bath at the front of the Georgian mansion that forms the heart of the hotel - and certainly there is nothing to spoil the vista from the front door of this near-perfect rural idyll. Set in 500 acres of countryside the Four Seasons is a delight in so many ways. Easy access to the M3 motorway and then to Heathrow or London puts the hotel in a prime spot for anyone wanting to get away from the bustle of the capital, but that doesn't mean leaving the highest standards behind. All of the staff are perfectly efficient but with an easy and engaging charm that means the atmosphere remains relaxed rather than formal. The facilities are extensive with a magnificent spa complex, plentiful grounds for a variety of activities, including many aimed at children - or just a peaceful walk in the countryside. Rooms are luxurious without being overly opulent with magnificently comfortable beds, delicious bathrooms featuring deep baths and all the little niceties you need. Although the restaurant is not exactly a design-filled space or even a grand, imposing room set to impress the quality and presentation of the menu contents is impeccable and imaginative. With a bistro section serving easier-styled food and a good bar menu there is plenty of choice - and a very lively Friday fish special service. The bars and public rooms are relaxed without being imposing and the air of calm contentment and refined relaxation permeates every corner. If I have one issue it is that the geographical location of the hotel atop a small rise funnels every bit of wind straight to the front door, dropping the temperature by a good few degrees. Perhaps the former Lord should have planted a few more trees when he moved the village!

There is a very high level of customer service a.nd attention to detail
The grounds are well kept and beautifully manicured .
You need not leave the property as there is a lot to do , between the Falconry and clay shooting
to the spa which unfortunately we did not have time to experience.

Room Tip: Garden View

Wonderful views from the Park Suite, overlooking the walled garden and dovecotes on one side and fields with horses and cattle in the front.
Very spacious suite. Beautiful spa and pool and up-to-date fitness gym.
Short daily visits to Chawton, Winchester, Highclere Castle , Beaulieu, Buckler's Hard and many more places.
Country walks from the front door of the hotel, or take a ride on a horse or visit the falconry.

Room Tip: In the main house or the west wing.

Great place to relax, set in wonderful countryside and grounds. Perfect for kids or without.
Spa is wonderful and are hotel facilities and service. Cycling, tennis, croquet , gym, spa, eternity pool, creche, horse riding, clay pigeon, picnics and boating.

Food good.

A great country retreat. Loved it. Would definitely return with our 3 year old.

This was our second visit to the Four Seasons and it did not disappoint. The staff as always were attentive to all our needs and upgraded us to a Heritage Room without even asking. The room was ready for us when we arrived even though it was long before check in time, and we were amazed to find a special pregnancy pillow along with baby magazines on the bed (my wife is pregnant). You know when you come to the Four Seasons that you will be looked after well and that was certainly the case on our visit.

The facilities, especially the spa are amazing, and we really enjoyed a drink at the bar.

Due to the high standards the Four Seasons sets itself, one is always slightly disappointed when some members of staff fall slightly below those standards, but it would be unfair to level that as a real criticism.

Not a cheap option but if you want a retreat for a special occasion, this could be the place, fantastic location, beautiful countryside, you feel like you are staying in a stately home. Comfortable rooms, excellent service and wonderful staff. The Spa is not to be missed - although the massages are wildly expensive and I happen to know that the staff receive a miserable amount of this, so you feel guilty about how wonderful the treatments are.

Stayed for a single night stay with 3 kids aged 9,7 & 5. Everything from start to finish was amazing, especially the facilites and entertainment for the kids. Set in wonderful grounds, the hotel is a lovely historic building with all mod cons. The kids were catered for throughout, towelling robes, slippers, swimming pool, a varied kids menu and an entertainer in the evening, they had a ball. They arranged a babysitter which allowed us to have an evening meal. Will certainly be returning. Dogs are also welcome.
