“Fab find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2007

Great little hotel about 7 miles from the centre of Andover. Recommend the Menu du Vin - four (optional courses) accompanied by a different wine - great value & food was excellent. Room was large with an old fashioned claw foot bath. Home made cookies in the room was a nice touch. Room was a little cold but no problem as the hotel provided a duvet. Roaring log fire in the bar - just great as it snowed whilst I was there. Very friendly, professional staff. Allow enough time for breakfast - a little slow as all freshly cooked and super local ingredients.

I have stayed twice at this hotel and can't recommend it enough. There is that personal touch that you don't get these days in modern large hotels. Although it is on the quiet side, something of a must on a business trip and a long tiring journey. Food was good as was the choice in wine. Very homely and welcoming.

Stayed here in May 2005, thought it was excellent. However I will say that this hotel is for people who like total peace and quiet - there's nothing to do in the hotel and there's nothing to do outside either, as its in the middle of nowhere. So a good place to unwind and to rest and relax. It has more the feel of a country house rather than a hotel, and you'll feel very comfortable in the rooms which are nice and large, with windows that open properly and views over the gardens. The gardens themselves are lovely, you can stroll around or sit on a bench and just let the breeze go by and the sun shine down. Small TV and DVD player in the room was handy for late night viewing (you have to have your own DVDs).

Food in the restaurant was excellent, good choice and expertly cooked; some unusual gourmet choices rather than your usual British cooking, so its worth having at least one meal here. Note that the restaurant tends to be quiet and you may be the only diners in there.

Staff are helpful and attentive; I needed a phone charger one evening and they went out of their way to find me one which was a lifesaver!

So overall I was very happy with Esseborne and would go back if the opportunity arose.
