My wife and I had a wedding reception at this hotel, along with a couple of nights stay. From the planning phase we found the management quite obnoxious, inexperienced, unprofessional and lacking in the personal skills required for this position. That may seem like professional character assassination, but more training is required in their people skills. What went wrong?
PLANNING PHASE WITH MANAGEMENT - Stubborn and quite uncomfortable to deal with. Although we did get a room we could agree with, it came through verbal jostling rather than helpful management. Our buffet was agreed, but no price deals could be found which was frustrating. Asked for champagne reception with two bottles of champagne and one extra that would be used for bucks fizz.
EXECUTION OF RECEPTION - Found there were 24 glasses of bucks fizz, rather than 2 bottles of champagne and one for bucks fizz. When management was approached about this no apology was extended, instead we were looked at like it was our mistake. The bucks fizz was promptly exchanged for champagne, but whether they had to be paid for extra I can't say, as I did not pay the final bill.
The buffet had no serving spoons so people had to use their hands to help themselves to the food. This was not acceptable. What disappoints me the most is that these are silly mistakes which could be avoided if more attention to detail was paid.
Our stay in the hotel was comfortable and on the whole there are no complaints with that part. Another commenter has mentioned about the lack of ventilation in the bathroom which is true. I would also extend the faults to the fire place which has a heater that does not work. However, these faults did not effect us a great deal. Again it is attention to detail that lets them down. The final complaint is when it came to bill paying...... The bill was paid for by a third party, so for reception to pester the bride and groom for payment is unacceptable and VERY unprofessional.
There were a few unforgivable errors in what happened during our stay but on a whole we were not massively effected. Some members of staff did their very best to accommodate us and for that we were very grateful. We also had a very nice evening meal there which went without incident and tasted delicious. The fault appears predominantly with leadership (Management) and failure to keep up with general maintenance.
