“Jane Austen House”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

Had a lovely time investigating this house. It is full of details about Jane Austen, her family, her life and her writing. There was a lovely garden to sit in and there was no hurry about which rooms to explore. There was a constant stream of visitors but - luckily for us - not a vast amount and so access to rooms was easy. The shop was interesting with some different things to buy. There was no real problem with parking. Exactly opposite was a pub and a cafe which provided food and drink. We did not eat there but the pub was full and obviously a good place to eat. The village itself is a delight, with some fantastic thatched cottages. The scenery on the way there is beautiful and signposting is pretty good. A lovely half day.

“A MUST for Janeites”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

If you love Jane Austen, you'll love seeing the house where she spent the last years of her life, and composed most of her works. The house/museum is lovely and charming, with dozens of Austen family artifacts (there's nary a one to be found in the Bath Jane Austen Centre, FYI), and an authentic "Jane" feel. You can walk in the gardens, write as Jane did with a quill and ink, and play an authentic Georgian/Regency era piano, if you're capapble. The piano, as the staff will explain, MIGHT have been Jane's, though they can't prove it for certain.

Parking is easy and staff is friendly.

i liked the house as it was full of visitors from around the world who all love Jane Austen.
Parking is easy to find both on street (some is marked residents only) and in the village car park.

“Engaging snapshots of Ms Austen's life and times.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

We visited on a lovely sunny day, the garden in bloom was worth the visit! Other highlights included the chance to write with quills in the kitchen and the informal piano recital in the 'drawing room'.

“Pretty house but not a lot to see.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

Chawton is a chocolate box English village and this is a nice house with a pretty garden, but even with reading everything there was in the house and waiting for and watching the 10 minute presentation dvd, we had finished in well under 45 minutes. The house has some of Austen's personal belongings and many that she "may have" used or seen. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit it.
