“Worth a visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

The house has retained all of the atmosphere that would have been here when Jane Austen was writing. The garden has intriguing nooks and crannies that transport you 100 years into the past, There's a brilliant tea-room opposite as well as a pub and Chawton House Library is just up the road.

“What a pleasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

The drive into the town is so picturesque with thatched roofs and flowers even in December. The tour of the house captures the essence of the period and the staff give wonderful explanations and hands on demonstrations. One can picture Jane sitting at the small table by the window or walking in the gardens. Definitely worth a visit.

“Thought provoking”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013

Visited on a wet Tuesday morning in February and still found the environment breathtaking. The house is small and full of writing and history but the craft area which included a chance to write with a quill and ink was a nice touch. If you're unsure about attention span I would say a view from even the roadside is an experience. Inside, it's solemn, serene and very thought provoking. Lovely.

“Charming, insightful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2013

What a nice experience--so much insight into the works and life of Jane Austen--and such a genuine experience--authentic in every way. Take time to go to Cassandra's Cup across the street for tea a and lunch

“Jan Austen Fans”

Yep - if you love the books, the films, the TV series then I guess this is the place for you. They do have some original Austen memorabilia which helps imagine the times and the hard work of writing in those days, let alone living!
