“A real pub - happy to recommend!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2013

We went to The Star the night before going on holiday. The first thing that strikes you when you walk in is that this is a proper village pub, full of locals. We all said on the way home that we would all like a pub like that in walking distance.
Not only did we recieve a warm welcome but you immediately feel comfortable. Posh it is not but full of character.
It was a Thursday which is steak night. We all had steaks. Every one was cooked to perfection and very tasty and excellent value starting from £10. The peppercorn sauce was very good as were the mushroom.
Quantity was just right and no one left hungry. The service was adequate and polite.
Total cost for two courses with two drinks was £22.50 each.

“Nice pub”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

We went along early in the week for a meal - that probably didnt help, as there were only a couple of people in there and it made it feel very flat. The food was ok, some nice touches, but pretty typical pub fayre. I had the liver and bacon with orange - the latter made it stand out on the menu but i'm afraid not on the dish itself. There were a couple of other little mistakes with our order that just niggled but I liked the fact that even on a quiet night there were candles and flowers on all the tables and the surrounds - there's obviously some effort and care going into it - it just didn't work for us that night i think

Thank you for taking the time to review the Star Inn we really appreciate reviews and on this occasion we are very sorry that we did not delivery. We work very hard to ensure all our customers enjoy their time at the Star, this time we obviously did not achieve that and we have taken note (I think we may served a wrong dessert my fault). Sorry again and hopefully you will return on a more lively night and enjoy out hospitality.

“Great for Sunday Lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

The Star Inn is a village pub that is earning a reputation for serving excellent food. Eight of us tried it in January 2013 and we all came away very happy. It is not a fancy-shmancy pub in the slightest (the decor and furniture is 'rustic') but it does deliver really good food. I cannot comment on the blues scene which seems to part of the pub's general and local attraction - there were a set of bongos in the men's loo!

The choice for Sunday lunch was wide and varied - ffor starters there were 6 or so items on the menu - from homemade vegetable soup to Thai fishcakes or goats cheese tart. The mains included a choice of two roasts - both the pork and the chicken looked very good. Two of us had the Normandy pork - really lovely and one of us grabbed the last available serving of 'Karen's Pie of the Day' - beef, mushroom and Guiness - it looked great with an excellent crust. No room for puddings this time but I was sorely tempted by the whiskey flavoured bread and butter pudding - next time maybe!

So, no airs and graces just good, honest food at very reasonable prices - well worth following the winding country lanes to get to. I'll be back!

“A hidden gem found with the help of trip Advisor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

We were looking for somwhere good to meet friends for Sunday lunch in the Alton Area & The Star Inn came up tops .It certainly lived up to expectations friendly staff , real country pub ,dogs welcome , open fires , interesting decor ..Wide choice of menu all home cooked & full of flavour served piping hot The dining area is small but this adds to special atmosphere but you would need to book to be sure of getting a table .The Star is in the country at Bentworth about 4 miles from Alton easy to find.
