“very atmospheric house with an interesting history.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012

Fascinating Tudor mansion with a long history that has been well restored. Plenty of background information and a beatiful garden. The house has a wonderful atmosphere, sitting in the middle of a suburban area only ten minutes or so from the centre of Manchester via the metro link. The staff are excellent, helpful and knowledgeable, and I enjoyed exploring the house and learning about its past including the ghost of the white lady. Historical legend says that Guy Fawkes came here to plan the gunpowder plot. It captured my imagination, particularly the Great Hall dating from 1500/ There is a small shop and cafe with very reasonable prices, the guidebook at £3.50 is a very good read, especially considering it is free to enter the house.

“RIght in the middle of Salford 5 minutes from the Lowry”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2012

Quite spectacular. Wonderful old hall which has had to move with the times from the middle ages, through wars and the industrial revolution. Now with Heritage Lottery funding it is a beautiful place to spend a hour or so wandering round. From the Great Hall right up to peeping into the roof space. The staff are all knowledgeable and ready to answer questions. Don.t forget to leave time to walk round the knot garden.

“A tiny gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2012

Recently lovingly restored, this Tudor hall with its ancient stories and ghosts is a great way to spend a wet afternoon on Manchester - just needs a coffee shop! Ample free parking on site. Worth a visit!

“Exquisite”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2012 via mobile

It's fancy and unique I liked seeing all the pretty clothes. The building was great, the windows were beautiful and the bricks were just like the den days. That's what makes it interesting
