“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

The biggest disappointment was the bed-a very lumpy mattress that I had to pad out with towels and clothes in order to get some sleep. I got a very perfunctory apology when I complained. The room smelt strongly of cigarette smoke and there were cigarette buts on the floor in the corridor. Went to breakfast at 8.45 and it was chaotic. They had run out of butter and pastries and we had to ask for bowls, glasses and cutlery which took ages to appear. This may have been because the hotel was full, but we were told this the night before, so it is hard to see why the hotel wasn't prepared.

I have never stayed at this particular hotel and was staying for only 1 night with my son. I found it to be quite basic though the staff were excellent (very accommodating), it cost around £8 to get to/from city centre which again I was happy to pay....with the one way systems etc you can find yourself paying that to go around the corner! Our room had double bed, tea/coffee facilities separate bathroom with shower/bath it was clean but lacking in a way I cannot put my finger on!
Continental or cooked breakfast was available at additional charge (continental was a bit poor!), I just had coffee £2.50 unlimited my son had cooked breakfast and it looked great and he said it was too!
Would stay again if only an overnighter!

I have stayed here a few times and find booking direct cheaper.
Although the rooms are a little tired and could do with some decorating, they are clean and have everything you need, tea n coffee, free wifi.
If you want a meal downstairs it is very pleasant and the staff very helpful and friendly.
The road can be quite noisey and you can here people in the next rooms occasionally, but
alll in all good value

Campanile Hotel in Manchester was by far better than what could be expected after reading peer reviews. First of all, it's not prettily located, but it sits right near an important junction so it's okay to walk to Deansgate, Imperial War Museum North and Old Trafford, among other things.

The property is functional, a motel with free parking. The beds were fine, the rooms equipped with decent TV sets as well as coffee/tea maker. The house is a little bit noise-sensitive when it comes to people talking in the hallway, but my room featured an internal door that I could close so as to enhance this experience.

Staff were very friendly, room very clean. So if you're looking for a bargain stay before a match at Old Trafford or similar, this is the right package.

We stayed at this hotel after seeing a gig at the Academy.

It was close to the centre, had secure parking and was only £45 per room on a Friday night. The rooms are comfortable, have all the basics such as tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer and tvs and although they could do with a bit of a lick of paint for the price we paid it was better than I expected it to be. When I have stayed in budget hotels in cities before I've found there is always a lot of noise but we had a sound nights sleep with no disturbances.

A tip for breakfast, we went to the Sainsburys next door which has a variety of cooked breakfasts for less than half the price of the hotels which were all decent and there is also a McDonalds across the road.

Reception and restaurant are nice and clean and the welcome into both is warm. On entering the block where the rooms are located it felt it bit like a hostel. Drab walls and there was a door hanging off in the corridor.

Room was okay, again it could do with a refurbishment but it was practical and clean. The bed was comfy and the bathroom was spotless.

Wifi is available and it's free plus the TV has plenty of channels to choose from. There was a smell of fresh paint so maybe they are refurbishing!

Food in the restaurant was okay, nothing special, just okay. My steak was very difficult to cut, it was like trying to cut an elastic band.

Staff throughout the hotel, especially the restaurant, were helpful friendly and professional.

Pricewise, good value for money.

Campanile as a brand is great and I have stayed in several of their hotels. This being one of the more dated.

Been here a couple of times now, both for the same reason, a cheap and basic room to stay in thats not too far away from town - and thats what you get really. Location is good if you are willing to walk 10 minutes to the beginning of Deansgate - the start of the city's fun. Its also only a few minutes walk away from the Science Museum if you're interested in that too. Takes about 15 minutes to walk to the Opera Theatre too, which is the reason we chose it this time round.

Be warned though of where you book a room through as the prices range depending on site. We thought we'd booked bed and breakfast but alas, we had to pay for the breakfast on arrival. Not too much of a problem as you're able to fill your boots if you have a continental. I upgraded to a full english. but to be honest it wasnt even worth the £2.75 extra charge (1 sausage, 1 egg, 1 bacon bit, 2 hashes and a spoon of beans).

Bedroom is basic, but it does its job - a bed, TV, kettle etc. Had to ask for clean cups and tea spoons though as these hadnt been left by the maids. Room wasnt exactly top notch clean either as sugar was spilt across the desk and the bath was a bit grotty. An added surprise was that the bed was an actual double rather than just a couple of singles pushed together like some budget hotels. Got very noisy though on this stay as there was a large group of young students running around, but a good pair of ear plugs soon gets rid of that problem.

MASSIVE bonus for this place is the free onsite (and secure) parking. This is a very rare thing in Manchester, which is one reason we choose this place.

Has a bar onsite too, but this closes at 11pm, so only good for either startign your evening or having an early nightcap.

Summary is that its a room and a bed thats only a walk away from town - and its cheaper than almost any other Manchester hotel thats got parking and is walkable from the centre.
