“Quiet+good food, but shabby & rundown”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2013

Stayed at the Copthorne Clippers Quay last night, and it was really a stay of half and half! Half good, and half bad!
Good points: Great evening food in the restaurant, great serving staff, free parking, very close to Man U football ground but not TOO close, VERY QUIET nights sleep (we were on the Quay side), nice view over Quay out of hotel room.
Bad points: Carpet in room was literally threadbare - was very unpleasant to walk on barefoot when going to the bathroom in the night. Also shower leaked and would dribble cold water on you when in the shower. Both points were raised with reception staff upon checkout but rather than an appology we just got 'yeah we know'. Err great, if you know about it, DO something about it.
Further bad points were a slightly disorganised breakfast service - no-one to greet guests and give them the run through, as hostess also seemed to be clearing tables, however lots of tables left dirty, and considering we were only 1 hour into the breakfast open hours, it didn't bode well for any one turning up after us.
Rubbish in lift to rooms - broken plastic fork from someones takeaway by the look of it - was there when we went to breakfast, still there when we came back, and still there an hour later when going to checkout - and seeing as staff got out of elevator when we got in each time, you'd think in the space of 2 hours they could sort this out.

Room Tip: Ask for a Quay Side room.

Have stayed here a few times now when having a weekend in Manchester. Good clean hotel and a great breakfast buffet. Free parking. Tram is opposite which takes you quickly into Manchester City Centre but there is a pub, Frankie & Bennys, Chiquitos, etc within walking distance. Good value when a non match day but obviously more expensive when the footie is on. . Staff helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Good standard hotel. Nothing overly fancy. Clean and comfy.
Small issue on check in being told we could not have a double room as we had booked through a third party site. However, did eventually swap rooms after negotiation. Found this slightly irritating as why advertise on third party sites if you not going to offer correct room?
Other than that location of hotel great. Breakfast also good value if offered the two for one on check in .

We went to watch the ODI cricket match at Old Trafford and being one who enjoys a drink while watching the match we needed to find a hotel to stay at. We found the copthorne staff to be very helpful allowing us to park there from the morning of the match and check in in the evening following the match. The rooms were comfortable and clean and the breakfast was good and hot as you would expect from such a hotel. Recommended as a place to stay when at the cricket or football.

Room Tip: We had a twin bedded ground floor room with a view of the canal dock.

We stayed here as we were seeing Caro Emerald at The Lowry and would recommend it to other travellers as is in a great location. There is on-site free car parking. We had a room overlooking the quay side which was lovely. The room was spacious and clean. The location is great for walking to The Lowry and it felt safe walking back later in the evening. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and greeted us warmly. Good selection of food to have at breakfast. A bottle of water in the room would have been a nice addition.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the waterfront if possible.

Stayed here 8th Sept 1 nite only on check in asked for the use of phone charger as my phone was as dead as dodo, luckily the Receptionist had one in her bag which she kindly lent me. Check in smooth as silk, room nice and neat gud view, lively very large oval shaped bath. Ventured down to the restaurant for Dinner very nice and welcoming attentive staff even though she was new. Ordered Deep Fried White Bait very nice and plenty if it I guess about 40 of the little tiddlers and served aioli mayonnaise, had a pint of Amstel with it, ordered Chicken Parmagiana for main not your usual Parma it wasn't breaded or have mozzarella and bolognese sauce in it but fine otherwise served with linguine, washed down with a glass of Cab Sav mmm nice, breakfast same old same old not much different in hotel breakfasts of course unless your in Hotel Corinthian in Prague were you get a feast but that's another story all in all great hotel. Short walk from Old Trafford Cricket and Football grounds.

We stayed here before a cricket match at Old Trafford and would certainly do the same again. We found the bed and breakfast deal good value and enjoyed an evening meal. The room was clean with lovely views and all the staff were good.Definitely no complaints.

Room Tip: Try and get a room with waterfront views.
