“Disappointing visit.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2013

Reception area and staff were ok. However as soon as you leave the lift you realize the hotel is in need of a complete revamp. Old furniture and carpets. Had a club room, nice view, but very old looking, old bulky tv, old carpets and tiles in the bathroom. An old blue shower curtain. No air conditioning. Stayed here a few years ago, when it was one of the best in Manchester, now it appears to be one of the worst 4 stars. Was looking forward to the breakfast, however we were met, and en route to our seats we were informed there were no scrambled eggs available, but fried and poached eggs were available. There were actually no eggs available, there was a queue for the bacon etc, but no eggs, we were told they were on the way, about ten minutes later 6 fried eggs arrived, they went within a few seconds. No eggs again. The bacon and sausage were cold, it appeared that whatever was underneath to keep the tray warm was broken. The yogurt bowl was empty and had not been refilled as was the water melon, which appeared to have half the yogurt mixed in with it. No tongs to lift the toast out. People using their fingers. Very disappointing breakfast. This hotel is definitely not a 4 star. Good free parking. And very close to tram station for a 9 minute journey into the city center. The girl behind the bar was very pleasant and helpful. I would not stop here again.

The hotel room itself was clean, had all the basics, comfortable and lovely view!!!!!!
The only thing that put a downer on the hotel was the VERY unfriendly reception staff that did not respond to emails and we found them very unwelcoming. This was our first day in Manchester and didn't know our way around.
It was at breakfast that we met the lovely ladies Raj and Wendy who are waitresses in the restaurant, who made us feel at home and gave us directions and tips to every where we wanted to go, they were lovely genuine people that brightened our mornings, Its a shame the bar and reception staff weren't as pleasant and friendly.

Staying here for one night. Great room with great view. Probably needs a refurb, but its a recession and to be fair paid a very good price. On my own so ate in the bar and service was second to none. Really polite staff and local accents too, whichever a change for a chain. Will stay again. Free parking great attribute! Forgot my toothpaste ooops, so I asked reception and no quarms they gave me what I needed at no charge. Stay if your looking at it!

I can not fault this hotel for its friendly reception and restaurant staff. Such as shame the rest of the hotel does not match this- carpet in my room was worn and frayed. Dinner options were limited and the conservatory was freezing.

We wanted to stay just one night to go shopping and decided on this hotel as it came up at a reasonable price on lastminute.com we had previously stayed in the Holiday Inn Express but as this was 4* we thought it would be nice
We were allowed to check in early but although we knew we had paid for breakfast they said that this was not the case so we had to pay again
The reception was ok and check in easy. We were on the 3rd floor with a lovely view of the quays. However the room was very basic and quite 'tired' looking. I think that for a 4* hotel it is a bit disappointing. The room at the Holiday Inn Express was probably nicer
The breakfast was ok again not particularly 4* and glad we paid for it the day before so got it cheaper, we would not have wanted to pay full price. Cutlery & crockery were a little 'greasy' looking and there was mould inside the milk jug
The waiters/waitresses were very nice though - very helpful and friendly and so were the room attendants. We had forgotten our phone charger and she sorted one for us
Overall it was ok but would only stay if it was a much better price than other hotels in the area

Room Tip: The rooms facing the quays have lovely view prob best to be higher up too

Came here on a business trip having failed to book anywhere else in time; a darts tournament in the city had filled hotels everywhere, and from the list provided by our travel booker this was our only option.
It took about 15 minutes by taxi from Piccadilly in busy traffic.
My room was clean, warm and comfortable. TV dated but functional. Very comfy chair and footstool. All the lighting was a bit dim, even in the bathroom, so no where to do makeup if required. Shower in the morning was lukewarm even when cranked up to max, my colleagues mentioned of the same thing.
Because we didn't know the area, it was dark, and a quick google hadn't thrown up anywhere obvious we ate in the Clipper Brasserie. The main attraction was a £19.95 three course carvery, with a salad buffet starter. Not in the mood for roast dinners on Tuesday night we opted to choose from the menu. It was very much hotel fare, burgers, fish of the day, hunters chicken, cottage pie. I opted for a 'local speciality' of Tatty Hash and Pickled Beets, which was a very small portion of bristly beef and potato hotpot type affair with a serving of beetroot on the side. I have a tiny appetite and was hungry afterwards, but at £14 plus a drink I was teetering on my budget.
Breakfast looked really good, although I didn't partake other than some fruit.
Fine for a room and breakfast but I suggest doing some research for dinner.

My boyfriend and I had an unbelievable stay at the Copthorne Hotel. We stayed there a few weekends ago and although it was only for one night, we received top class treatment. We got checked in earlier than check in time which was a great start for us tired travelers. It was no problem at all. We got into our room to find it spacious, clean and most importantly comfortable. The view was fantastic and we were absolutely satisfied with our room. We were heading out that night and I needed a safety pin so we decided to call reception and ask for one. Within minutes, a member of staff was at our door with a selection of sizes of safety pins. The next morning we needed train tickets printed and again we asked reception. They had our tickets printed and waiting on us as we were checking out. The customer service was outstanding - something you rarely receive. The food was great, the location was fantastic. For the price we paid for the room, our stay was exceptional! It really is the little things that count...
